Mutua Madrid Open Men’s Singles QF
The Men’s Singles event of the Mutua Madrid Open was shaken by the early exit of Andy Murray and Raonic. With two online betting favourites out, the betting odds begin to shift in favour of Novak Djokovic ahead of all the others.
The Serb is still to make a splash on the big stage this year, and Murray’s absence from the last eight gives him the best chance to win a clay court tournament. However, I’d advise against putting all your money on Novak: he still has to overcome live betting star Kei Nishikori.
Dominic Thiem vs Borna Coric
Borna Coric got the attention of the world after beating World No1 Andy Murray in straight sets. Meanwhile, Dominic Thiem barely managed to stop Grigor Dimitrov in a tough contest.
However, the Austrian he should be able to answer whatever Coric throws at him. The key for this game is whether Thiem will last against the young Croat’s strikes. This will be a close match, so going for Coric +1.50 @ 1.95 is not a bad option at all.
Pablo Cuevas vs Alexander Zverev
Pablo Cuevas is the better attacker on clay, but his sloppy defence caused his games to become long, difficult contests. The exhaustion will definitely catch up to him as he faces Zverev. The 20-year-old German had an easier time compared to his 31-year-old opponent and should be the heavy favourite to win.
I don’t expect Cuevas to win this game, so Zverev’s -1.50 @ 2.02 is a steal in my books.
David Goffin vs Rafael Nadal
David Goffin easily dispatched Milos Raonic in straight sets but will have trouble trying to beat Rafael Nadal in his element. After controlling the high-powered strikes of Nick Kyrgios, the King of Clay will be making life a living hell for the Belgian.
I expect this to be another straight-set game, so Nadal -1.50 @ 1.50 is the most logical punt to make.
Novak Djokovic vs Kei Nishikori
Djokovic will always be a tough nut to crack regardless of the surface being played on, but Nishikori’s a deadly opponent on clay. Djokovic will find it hard to break the Japanese’s service games, so he needs to keep his own and try to gently break him down.
The Serb won their semi-final clash last year, and we should expect more of the same. However, Nishikori won’t be going down without a fight and will try to steal a set from the World No2. Nishikori’s +1.50 @ 1.74 is a sure win, in my opinion.
