All eyes will be on Iga Swiatek in next week’s French Open. The women’s World No. 1 is on an incredible roll at the moment as she heads to Roland Garros on a run of five consecutive tournament wins, and she shares what the key will be for her in her search for a sixth straight title.
The French Open 2022 betting odds will have the red-hot Swiatek as the big favourite in Paris, and she will have two fewer challengers in this year’s competition as a couple of former French Open finalists have pulled out due to injury.
Meanwhile, reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu’s status for the French Open is still in doubt as she continues to recover from a back injury.

Swiatek seeking to do ‘same stuff’ in Paris
Iga Swiatek will head into this year’s French Open in fabulous form. After sitting out the Madrid Open with a shoulder injury, the World No. 1 was absolutely dominant in her return at the Italian Open as she won her fifth title in a row.
She became just the fourth player in the 2000s – joining Venus and Serena Williams as well as Justine Henin – to win five or more tournaments in a row. Moreover, her current 28-game winning streak is the longest since Henin had 32 straight wins in 2008.
Swiatek will surely be the favourite at Roland Garros, but the 20-year-old has no plans to change her preparation for the Grand Slam.
“Well, I think the key is going to be just doing the same stuff I did before. Right now, at these tournaments, I already faced a lot of pressure. So hopefully the different kind of pressure that we have at a Grand Slam isn’t going to overwhelm me.”
Swiatek already has a French Open title under her belt as she won in 2020 at the tender age of 19. She fell in the quarter-finals to Maria Sakkari last year.
Two French Open finalists out due to injury
Two former French Open finalists – Marketa Vondrousova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova – have pulled out of this year’s tournament due to injury.
Vondrousova, who made the final in 2019 and is the current world No. 35, will miss the French Open after recently undergoing wrist surgery.
“The last few weeks were not easy, I have been experiencing recurring pain in my wrist,” Vondrousova said on a social media post.
“After seeing a couple of doctors, I decided to get this small surgery done to be able to play pain free. Staying positive through the recovery and can’t wait to be back on the court soon.”
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Pavlyuchenkova, who lost to Barbora Krejcikova in last year’s French Open final, has a knee injury that will keep her out for the rest of the 2022 season.
“I have been playing this in my head for the last week and it has been a really tough decision to make, as Roland Garros was always very special to me, especially after a dream run last year,” she wrote. “But due to the pain for a long time, now the injury is limiting me physically and mentally to compete and practice fully.”
Pavlyuchenkova, the world No. 21, had missed 10 weeks after the Australian Open due to the injury but returned last month in Madrid and Rome. She won the doubles title with partner Veronika Kudermetova at the Italian Open last week, but she was still dealing with pain in her knee, which led to her decision to sit out the remainder of the season.
Raducanu still recovering from back issue
Emma Raducanu could also be a potential injury casualty at this year’s French Open. The reigning US Open champion’s status for Roland Garros remains in doubt as she continues to deal with a back injury.
Raducanu was forced to retire from her round of 64 match against Bianca Andreescu at the Rome Masters due to her back injury, and she is understandably cautious about her injury, to the point where she would contemplate missing the French Open.
“Skipping the Roland Garros? Obviously I would not want to lose it but I have to make sure that my back is totally healed, I don’t want to play my next match still with physical problems. Despite
everything these weeks have been positive and I just have to continue on this path.”
The 19-year-old, who recently split with coach Torben Beltz went 4-3 in three clay-court tournaments in Stuttgart, Madrid, and Rome in her preparation for the French Open. Should Raducanu recovers in time, she would be making her first-ever appearance at Roland Garros.
