Mutua Madrid Open Men’s Singles SF
The early departure of Andy Murray sure gave tennis fans a live betting shock, but his absence won’t decrease the lustre of the Madrid Open semi-finals that pit Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic for a spot in the finals.
There are also surprise semi-finalists Dominic Thiem and Pablo Cuevas who will both prove to the online gambling community that they deserve a shot at the trophy.
Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic
Truth be told, many fans have seen this match coming after both players were drawn on the same side. And many believe that this will be Nadal’s biggest test yet in his clay campaign this season.
Djokovic leads their head-to-head with a 26-23 record, including seven straight wins in their recent matches. With this, to say that Djokovic has only the mental edge would be an understatement.
Nadal, of course, is the King of Clay, and his 14-7 clay court standing against the Serb will give him some confidence, but he needs to give it his all especially against a player like Djokovic who plays better in high-stake games.
The Spaniard will be a dangerous opponent with his current clay form and devastating forehand; however, if Djokovic can take advantage of the rest he got from the quarter-final withdrawal of Kei Nishikori and serve well in the match, he could upset the seemingly untouchable Nadal.
This one should be a tight affair, so going for Djokovic on Game Handicap +3.50 @ 1.97 isn’t bad at all.
Dominic Thiem vs Pablo Cuevas
Although both players are first-time ATP Masters 1000 semi-finalists, their latest displays should make this game an entertaining watch.
The higher-seeded Thiem is the favourite to come out on top, and for a good reason. Not only is he having another successful clay-court season, but he is also playing better than ever after reaching the finals in Barcelona as he knocked Andy Murray out of that tournament.
Cuevas have already defeated Thiem in their only meeting two years ago, though it won’t help him that his legs have experienced little rest after needing all three sets to win his four matches in this competition.
The Uruguayan should still pose some problems for Thiem, but I think the Austrian’s defence will make the difference here. With that said, betting on Thiem Asian Handicap -1.50 @ 2.11 looks like a good move.
