Will you bet online on an exciting Mercedes comeback?

Canadian Grand Prix

Following their miserable showing in Monaco, Mercedes will look to turn the betting odds in Montreal and cut Ferrari’s gap in the drivers’ and constructors’ championship.

Most sports betting pundits back the Silver Arrows to strike back in the Canadian Grand Prix, but after what happened in the last race, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas know that they need to be more focused to slow down Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

As usual, pre-race odds put defending champion and five-time tournament winner Hamilton in front with 2.20 to win. He is only second to F1 icon Michael Schumacher for the most titles in the Canadian GP, but another win would put him closer to tying the record.

Nevertheless, Vettel will be determined to end another Ferrari drought as he comes in with odds of 2.50. The German ace halted Mercedes’ dominance at Circuit de Monaco last month, so he’ll be eyeing to do it again – this time on Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve – to give his team their first victory in Canada since 2004.

Bottas and Raikkonen, meanwhile, are at odds of 7.00 to win. Both drivers, particularly Ferrari’s Raikkonen, have a good chance to come out on top after their impressive showing in the practice sessions – though that is if they won’t play a supporting role to their teammates.

On the other hand, Red Bull and their drivers Max Verstappen and Daniel Riccardo are behind the two top constructors once again, with odds putting them at 51.00 and 67.00 respectively. They will need to do well in the qualifying race to increase their chances of at least finishing in the Top 3, but they won’t have their hopes up after suffering engine problems during practice.

Canadian fans will look forward to the performance of home hero Lance Stroll, though odds of 2001.00 will lessen expectations of the rookie getting his first championship points. After all, he’s completed only two Grand Prix, with a best finish of 11th in Russia.

Tire management and strategy will play a big part for the leaders and the other teams in the race. The track, with its long straights, the chicane, the hairpin and the final corner, rewards those with good traction, so making the most out of Pirelli’s tyres – where Mercedes have been struggling – will be crucial.

Sure enough, all eyes will be on Hamilton and Vettel when the race starts, and a victory from any of the two would be zero surprise. That is unless other teams have something new in their arsenal.
