Before the calendar year ends, the driving and principal lineups are all set and confirmed for what will surely be an exciting Formula 1 season.
The most recent news that completed the grid for next year is the confirmation of Liam Lawson’s tenure at AlphaTauri as their reserve driver.
So, with that being said, read more below for an in-depth analysis of the latest Formula 1 2024 updates and a complete rundown of the F1 grid for next season.
Red Bull Racing
Drivers: Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez
Team Principal: Christian Horner
Red Bull Racing dominated the entire grid last season, and as long as the best driver in the world, Max Verstappen, is behind the Red Bull wheel, they are poised for strong results in the upcoming campaign.
The only matter in question in the Red Bull garage for the upcoming season is the future of their second driver, Sergio Perez. All season long, speculations around the rumor mill have surrounded the Mexican driver and his future with the team. His lackluster results in the RB19 have been a little lackluster.
It’s not an easy task to drive alongside Max Verstappen, and Perez’s mistakes were magnified because of this. But all the smoke cleared, and Red Bull Racing decided to continue to ride with Perez until the end of his contract, which expires at the end of 2024, as the team sounded out that Perez has been a pivotal part of their dominance in the sport in the past years.
Scuderia Ferrari
Drivers: Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz
Team Principal: Fred Vasseur
Ferrari are one of the teams who will run on back onto the next season, sticking with their golden boys Leclerc and Sainz.
Ferrari and Mercedes only have one gold for the upcoming campaign, and that’s to close the gap between them and Red Bull Racing. Leclerc in particular, has had a lot of success in the qualifiers, bagging multiple pole positions. But unfortunately, Leclerc failed to convert any of his poles into wins, succumbing to the might of Verstappen and Red Bull.
Sainz, on the other hand, was the only driver who’s not from the Red Bull garage to win a race last season, which just shows how dominant the RB 19 was last campaign. As usual, the main question mark above the heads of Scuderia is if they will finally choose a main driver among their talented duo.
A change of strategy might or might not do them good, but their fiery spirits and hunger for a championship will definitely lead them to the right choice of action heading into the new season.
Mercedes AMG Petronas
Drivers: Lewis Hamilton, George Russell
Team Principal: Toto Wolff
The Silver Arrows are still one of the best teams on the grid coming into the next season and are one of the favourites in the Formula 1 2024 betting odds to win the championship.
The core pairing of Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton boasts prestige and accolades that should be respected by their adversaries on any track and in every season. Their young buck, George Russell, had a stellar debut season for the Silver Arrows but was quickly outshined by his multiple-world champion teammate, Lewis Hamilton, last season.
Hamilton finished third in the driver standings, only behind Red Bull drivers Verstappen and Perez. Merc are aiming to go back to their winning ways and go back to the top of the pedestal now that Hamilton and Russell have multiple races under their belt together.
Mercedes will definitely be one of the teams to keep an eye on in the upcoming season.
AlphaTauri
Drivers: Daniel Ricciardo, Yuki Tsunoda
Team Principal: Laurent Mekies
The Italian Formula 1 team had a rollercoaster ride of a campaign last season. To start the 2023 season, AlphaTauri headlined the grid with one of the most promising driver lineups, with Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda and Dutchman Nyck de Vries.
The much-awaited debut of Nyck de Vries was short-lived after disappointing results to start the season. His stint with AlphaTauri only lasted until July 2023, when he was replaced by decorated driver, the Honey Badger, Daniel Ricciardo.
Due to a hand injury, Ricciardo was forced to give up his seat while tending to his broken hand, which gave promising driver Liam Lawson a chance to showcase his skills and potential on the biggest stage of motorsports.
To add to the swing of emotions in the AlphaTauri garage, their beloved team principal Franz Tost bid farewell to the sport after the last race of the 2023 season, and the Italian team will feature the former assistant team principal for Scuderia Ferrari, Laurent Mekies as the new man at the helm for AlphaTauri.
McLaren
Drivers: Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri
Team Principal: Andrea Stella
CEO Zak Brown appointed Italian F1 veteran Andrea Stella as the new head honcho of the Papayas ahead of the 2023 season.
In his first season as the man at the helm, McLaren made significant improvements, scoring twice as many Constructor points as in their 2022 season. In 2022, McLaren was the fifth-best team on the grid with 159 points by the end of the season, but they quickly turned things around in 2023 by scoring a total of 302 points and finishing fourth in the constructor standings.
Aside from Stella, their golden boy, Lando Norris, was one of the main catalysts for their success. Norris proved he’s one of the fastest drivers on the paddock and, at times, was the only one who could keep up with Max Verstappen.
It also helps their cause that their offseason signing, Oscar Piastri, showed what the hype was all about. He finished the season with 97 points and is expected to improve on his amazing rookie campaign now that he has an entire season under his belt.
Here are the lineups for the rest of the teams on the paddock:
Alfa Romeo
Drivers: Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu
Team Principal: Alessandro Alunni Bravi
Aston Martin
Drivers: Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll
Team Principal: Principal Mike Krack
Alpine
Drivers: Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon
Team Principal: Bruno Famin
Haas
Drivers Kevin Magnussen, Nico Hülkenberg
Team Principal: Guenther Steiner
