Azerbaijan Grand Prix
The Baku City Circuit is still a fairly new destination for many of the Formula 1‘s big fans, but it’s already become a track that promises great racing and free bets from the sport’s big punters. Given the amount of action and spectacle the track witnessed last year, it’s hard not to look forward to what this sharp-looking track has in store.
Like the previous year, much of the attention goes to Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. Pundits and betting websites believe that races such as this will determine who will win the season, making it a priority for Ferrari to snag the win here.
Mercedes performed a lot better than Ferrari during the inaugural race, justifying Hamilton‘s outright odds of 2.00. However, Hamilton is yet to win a race this year and may be hard-pressed to snag pole position here.
In order for Vettel (booked at 2.50) to win here, he needs to keep his cool and prevent a similar incident that cost him the race last year. He knows that Mercedes will try to attack his mental state and will need to focus and prevent himself from tilting on a track that suits Mercedes machines better.
Red Bull made a fantastic recovery after stumbling in the first two races of the season. Daniel Ricciardo (23.00) is not given much attention compared to the two, but his consistent performance will definitely make him a threat if the two leads don’t pay enough attention. It’s this great quality of his that has got rumours circulating about him leaving for Ferrari, after all.
Even Max Verstappen, who was also slapped with 23.00 by bookies, will be a lot more focused coming into this race. He knows that he needs to get his act together after an embarrassing run that cost him the race in Shanghai. It will be interesting to see how he will contain himself in Baku’s narrow roads, but fans can expect aggressive racing from the young firebrand of a racer.
Fernando Alonso (203.00) is a far cry from the top position, but he believes that the three-way riot at the top will give midfield teams opportunities to steal their lightning. While Valtteri Bottas (6.00) and Kimi Raikkonen (7.00) will also make life tough, he is confident that McLaren’s change of approach will make his on-track battles easier.
There’s still so little separating the top five drivers in the standings, and it is here where we could see some separation. Will Vettel finally get some breathing room? Or will Hamilton push him back up to a place of discomfort? Will Alonso finally snag a win? Will Red Bull surprise the two giants from behind?
These questions will only be answered once the red lights go off.
