Upsets in the Top Flight are Really Fun to Watch!

Hoffenheim 2-0 Bayern Munich

Hoffenheim’s win over Bayern Munich isn’t really surprising given their head-to-head record last year, but seeing the live betting favourites fall this early certainly gives football betting in the Bundesliga a whole new flavour.

Not to mention that it was Bayern’s first defeat of the season as they fell to the unusual position of fifth on the table – a first since August 2014.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men, as expected, were the more dominant side and showed the Sinsheimers the pride and quality of the reigning German champions. Despite 23 shots on goal, however, they failed to find the back of the net as betting odds on their chances to win the match slowly crashed.

Hoffenheim, on the other hand, were the usual clinical team they are under Julian Nagelsmann. They had the home advantage and made sure to make the most of it to get another win over the great Bavarians.

The home outfit, though, have the in-form Mark Uth to thank for the victory. The 26-year-old striker scored in both intervals, the first one in 27 minutes from a quick throw-in that caught the Bayern defence off guard.

Uth then finished an excellent team move five minutes into the second half to double their lead and give Hoffenheim some breathing space.

Ancelotti, in the closing stages, sent in Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and James Rodriguez – who started off the bench in preparation for the Champions League in midweek – but it all went to nought as they struggled to finish against the tight Hoffenheim defence.

The win propelled Hoffenheim to the top, level on points with Borussia Dortmund who failed to extend their lead with a surprising 0-0 draw against Freiburg.

On the other games, Hannover 96 also climbed to the top after pulling off an impressive 1-1 stalemate against the much-improved Wolfsburg. Martin Harnik led the comeback for the newly-promoted side after trailing early in the second half with Daniel Didavi’s goal.

Leipzig, meanwhile, started the week on fire with a 2-0 victory over the soaring Hamburg squad. Timo Werner and Naby Keita were both on target to lift last year’s runners-up to fourth place.

The second biggest upset of the weekend, perhaps, was Mainz‘ 3-1 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen at Opel Arena. Still without a point and a goal before the match, the O-Fives bounced back with three goals, two of which came in the second half.
