Super Eagles Soar Really High in Uyo!

Nigeria 4-0 Cameroon

Nigeria came into the match under a lot of pressure and with something to prove. Luckily for us and their live betting followers, they came prepared.

Betting websites put them as early favourites in the first leg of their back-to-back World Cup qualifying football games against Cameroon, and they showed the whole world the reason for that as they dominated the reigning African Champions with a 4-0 hammering at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Indeed, it was a moment to remember for Gernot Rohr and his boys and a day to forget for the Indomitable Lions.

Cameroon frontman Christian Bassogog said way before their meeting with Nigeria that they must win to keep their qualifying hopes alive. However, they never really showed up come game time, with the match looking all but over at halftime.

Two first-half goals from Odion Ighalo and skipper John Obi Mikel, who had a hand in their 29th-minute opener, kept the ball rolling for the hosts, and they never looked back as they added two more after the break.

Premier League standouts Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho led Nigeria’s second-half barrage, with the former scoring their third in the 55th minute after an exchange of passes with Moses Simon.

Iheanacho, meanwhile, put the icing on the cake in their rout of Nigeria, rounding off the game 14 minutes from time with a beautiful close-range finish off an Ogenyi Onazi assist.

Hugo Broos tried to mix it up for the Lions in the second by sending in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Arnaud Djoum and Fabrice Olinga, but they still weren’t able to get through the tough Eagles’ defence.

With the victory, Nigeria now stand atop Group B with nine points, while Cameroon remain with two points and still winless after two draws earlier.

The two rivals will meet again at Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde next week for the reverse tie where Cameroon will look to use their home-court advantage to take revenge and save face from this embarrassing defeat.
