Serie A: Supercoppa Italiana Setback Shouldn’t Discourage Atalanta

Udinese vs Atalanta

It’s back to Serie A matters for Atalanta, and a tough challenge awaits them, as they will take on an improving Udinese team at the Bluenergy Stadium this Saturday. Depending on this weekend’s Serie A 2025 results, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side can reclaim the top berth in the Italian top-flight standings.

Atalanta have fallen to second place with 41 points after settling for a 1-1 draw against Lazio before the New Year and Napoli secured a convincing 3-0 win against Fiorentina. After that, La Dea’s first shot to win a trophy this season vanished after losing 2-0 to Inter Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Udinese are slowly climbing up in the Serie A table. Kosta Runjaic’s side is ninth with 25 points because they’re unbeaten in their last three games, including back-to-back draws against Torino (2-2) and Hellas Verona (0-0).

Talking Points

Udinese to lose top scorer

Udinese are challenging for a European football berth this season because the players are slowly buying into Kosta Runjaic’s free-flowing tactics. They are on pace to surpass their goal total last season (37), as they already have 23 goals in the first 19 matchdays.

Udinese star Lorenzo Lucca won't be playing in upcoming Serie A match against Atalanta

Lorenzo Lucca and Florian Thauvin are spearheading the Friulians’ attack this year, combining for 12 league goals and three assists. However, they won’t be together in the final third this Saturday, as Lorenzo Lucca must serve his suspension for accumulating yellow cards. Substitute forward Keinan Davis (two goals and one assist) is also an injury doubt, giving Runjaic a major lineup dilemma.

Because he has limited options in the final third, Kosta Runjaic might reintroduce Alexis Sanchez in the starting XI. The Chilean forward has only made two Serie A appearances for Udinese this season. The manager will also miss the services of the injured veteran winger Gerard Deulofeu and first-choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

Atalanta hope to have Retegui back

Mateo Retegui hasn’t appeared in a game for Atalanta since he hurt his hamstring during the team’s 3-2 victory against Empoli last December. Local reports say the 25-year-old striker has returned to full fitness this week so he might be featured in the matchday squad this Saturday. The former Genoa man is still the league’s frontrunner for the Capocannoniere award, with 12 league goals and three assists. Since Retegui was sidelined, Atalanta have only scored one goal, courtesy of Marco Brescianini in the 1-1 draw against Lazio.

Ademola Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere should regain their starting spots after coming off the bench against Inter Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-finals last weekend. The two strikers combined for 14 league goals and 10 assists this season, making them vital in beating Udinese.

Atalanta will likely miss the services of injured Berat Djimsiti, Raoul Bellanova, and Juan Cuadrado this weekend, but the team still has enough depth to see this through.

History

Udinese and Atalanta have already faced off earlier this season, with the latter winning 2-1 in Bergamo last November. Hassane Kamara gave Udinese a 1-0 lead before the end of the first half, but Atalanta roared back via a goal from Mario Pasalic and an own goal by Isaak Toure.

Atalanta have not lost any of their last 14 Serie A matches against Udinese (W9, D5). Since Gian Piero Gasperini took over as Atalanta manager, La Dea have lost only one of their eight Serie A away matches against the Friulians (W3, D4).

Udinese have recorded eight points in their last five Serie A matches (W2, D2, L1). However, they’ve conceded nine goals in their last four Serie A home matches (2.3 goals per game) after conceding just three in the four before that (0.8 goals per game).

Betting Tip

The SBOTOP Serie A 2025 odds expect a straightforward result from Atalanta this Saturday. Atalanta are favoured to win at 1.68 odds, whereas Udinese are 4.46 underdogs, and a draw is at 3.55 in the 1X2 market.

Given the collective firepower between these two sides, Udinese and Atalanta should score goals this weekend, with the visitors expected to score more, making alternatives like Over 2.50 at 1.83, Over 2.75 at 2.06, Over 3.00 at 2.42, Total Goal 2-3 at 2.00, or even Total Goal 4-6 at 3.14 worth considering.

Furthermore, a Correct Score of 2-1 in favour of La Dea – the result of their most recent league meeting – is priced at 7.40. A Correct Score of 1-1, on the other hand, has a slightly lower offer of 7.00 of your bet.
