The games continue to roll here in Serie A as we’re approaching the next international break since World Cup 2022 is on the horizon.
11 matchdays in and Napoli remain leading the fray with 29 points, while defending champions AC Milan, Lazio, and Atalanta round out the top four and are within striking distance, meaning that there’s no room for complacency for I Partenopei.
Another matchday means another set of fun games in the Italian top-flight, and SBOTOP football fans have these top options to choose from this weekend.
Lazio vs Salernitana
Lazio will have to change their approach to matches because of the absence of Ciro Immobile, who’s expected to be out for a while after suffering a hamstring injury against Udinese 10 days ago.
I Biancocelesti did get a vital win over fellow contenders Atalanta on Monday because of Mattia Zaccagni and Felipe Anderson’s goals, and they’re going to need more from them, as Maurizio Sarri recently stressed.
Before hosting Salernitana, Lazio have an important match against Midtjylland on Thursday. I Biancocelesti are locked in a tight battle in Group F of the Europa League so they’re in a must-win situation.
Even if fatigue is going to be a factor, Lazio should have enough to beat Salernitana. I Granata have been inconsistent as they’ve alternated wins and losses in their last four and they are 11th in the standings.
Boulaye Dia and Krzysztof Piątek are Salernitana’s top attacking threats, but breaking down the best defencive unit in the league (only 5 goals conceded) currently is going to be a tall order.
Torino vs AC Milan
Torino finally ended their winless streak when they defeated Udinese on Sunday. They also won versus Citadella in the Coppa Italia second round prior to that, so they have built some momentum.
But AC Milan are in much better form than their hosts as they’ve won five consecutive matches across all competitions – including a 4-0 drubbing against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League group stage last night.
It’s all clicking for I Rossoneri as 14 different players have already scored so far this term. Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud are leading the way with six goals apiece, and they have eight goals combined as well.
Il Toro, on the other hand, have slightly changed their approach with hopes of turning around their Serie A 2022 odds. They’ve introduced Pietro Pellegri as their new lone striker and he quickly repaid their trust as he opened his scoring account this season.
Inter Milan vs Sampdoria
2021 champions Inter Milan have some catching up to do if they are to get back into the title race this term. After suffering back-to-back defeats against Udinese and AS Roma, the Nerazzurri have improved their Serie A 2022 results with three consecutive league victories against Sassuolo, Salernitana, and Fiorentina.
There’s more good news for Simone Inzaghi’s side as Romelu Lukaku is set to return soon. The Belgian striker has been out with a thigh injury for two months and the Nerazzurri were struggling to cope with his absence.
As for Sampdoria, they’re coming off a 1-0 win over Cremonese yesterday. I Blucerchiati need three more points against I Nerazzurri in order to get out of the relegation zone.
Empoli vs Atalanta
Atalanta are plotting for a bounce back following their loss to Lazio on Monday. La Dea were reduced to 10 men in the said match as Luis Muriel was sent off at the 90th minute, so that’s one less star for them.
This means that Ademola Lookman would need to assert himself against Empoli. The former Leicester City man has settled quickly in Bergamo and he has four goals and one assist under his belt.
Gian Piero Gasperini is hopeful that Duvan Zapata will be back to bolster his attacking options. The Colombian has missed seven games already due to a thigh injury.
Empoli’s morale is down following a 4-0 capitulation at the hands of Juve, but they did secure a 1-0 win over Monza in the week prior.
Napoli vs Sassuolo
Napoli vs Sassuolo is probably the match of the weekend. I Partenopei have yet to lose a game all season, so I Neroverdi have plans to spoil the party at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
This game is basically a showcase of young, tantalising talents because the top scorers from the two sides are under 25 years old. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Giacomo Raspadori, and Victor Osimhen will lead the line for Napoli, while Sassuolo have Davide Frattesi, Armand Lauriente, and Andrea Pinamonti up front.
