Serie A: Torino Come From Behind to Beat Milan

Torino 2-1 AC Milan

Torino star striker Andrea Belotti scored a quick-fire brace as they completed a stunning comeback against AC Milan yesterday at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino with a score of 2-1 in their Serie A fixture.

It was a disappointing defeat for the struggling I Rossoneri who looked deserving for a chance to win even if they lost earlier against their bitter rivals in Inter.

They were primed to take over the game after Kryzysztof Piatek’s early goal at the 18th minute. However, Torino didn’t give up trying and getting multiple chances at a goal. Their persistence paid off, however, due to Andrea Belotti’s brilliance.

Milan coach Marco Giampaolo was left with more questions than answers after the loss and for sure he is feeling a whole lot of pressure right now as the fans’ displeasure continues to grow. It was the team’s third loss in five matches since he replaced Gennaro Gattuso last summer.

As for Torino, they grabbed their third win of the season after losing to Lecce and Sampdoria in consecutive match days. With the victory, Torino’s Serie A 2019 odds for a top-six finish have gotten a whole lot better as they already got nine points.

As always, SBOBET is here to help you re-live some of the best Serie A 2019 highlights in this game.

Highlights of the game

The game started as a ho-hum affair as both teams were still getting a feel for the game, but Torino looked to be more energetic on defence with their press early on.

Torino’s Lyanco was given a yellow card during the 8th minute after a silly foul, awarding Milan’s first great chance of the evening via a free kick. Hakan Calhanoglu’s right strike outside of the box, however, curved too far from the left.

AC Milan found its breakthrough at the 18th minute. Kryzysztof Piatek scored an easy free kick after Rafael Leao was fouled in the penalty area to give I Rossoneri the first lead of the match.

Franck Kessie tried to put one in just inside the box few minutes later, but his shot was a bit far to the right post unfortunately. A similar attempt was done by Calhanoglu, but Torino goal keeper Salvatore Sirigu was there to make a save.

Milan had another great chance after a deflected cross. Rafael Leao attempted a lovely header, but his shot was parried away again by Sirigu. Nothing much else happened throughout the remainder of the first half.

The second half, however, was a different story that featured Andrea Belotti leading the charge for Walter Mazzarri’s side. I Granata had multiple free kick attempts but they were unsuccessful each time.

Ola Aina, who didn’t get to do much in this game, even tried one shot on target over the left flank but it was deflected by Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Torino kept on with their press to stymie Milan and they pounced on every opportunity when the latter lost possession.

After a great defencive effort, Tomas Rincon found a running Belotti at the left flank when they gained possession at the 72nd minute. Andrea Belotti used his wonderful ball handling by running circles around Mateo Musacchio and he shot the first goal for Torino when his strike bounced off the hands of Donnarumma.

The 25-year-old striker provided one more highlight when he followed up Simone Zaza’s miss in spectacular fashion. After another great save by Donnarumma, Belotti jumped in mid-air to put in a smashing bicycle kick to complete the turnaround.

In added time, Piatek went for an equaliser after a nice volley by Suso. However, he was denied by Sirigu from point blank distance and that sealed the win for I Granata.

Key statistics

Looking at the stat sheet, it was surprising that AC Milan had the advantage in most categories. They had more total shots (16), possession (55-per cent), and passes as well (429 passes at 80-per cent accuracy).

AC Milan missed a key player in Pepe Reina when he was given a red card at the 72nd minute.

I Rossoneri have conceded two goals in back-to-back matches for the first time since last year. This was the first time that Torino have come from behind against Milan in a Serie A fixture since 1942.

Andrea Belotti has scored in six of his last seven home games in Serie A, while pouring in nine total goals for that time span.

What’s next?

AC Milan will look to bounce back next Sunday as they travel to San Siro to face a struggling squad in Fiorentina.

Torino, on the other hand, will fly over to the Ennio Tardini Stadium to face the 12th-seeded Parma 24 hours later.
