AS Roma vs Lazio
Roma and Lazio would add another chapter to their bitter rivalry as they will face off once more in the matchday 21 of Serie A this weekend.
In their previous fixture, Lazio managed to draw level after trailing for majority of the first half as Luis Alberto scored at the 58th minute. His status, however, in this upcoming game is yet to be confirmed especially after having to deal with a muscle strain.
The Biancocelesti continue to fly high in the Serie A standings as they hold the solo third spot with 45 points. They have been making their case as title contenders as they’re giving the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus a run for their money.
On the other hand, Roma have recovered for a bit with a dominating win against Genoa last time. Prior to that match, the Giallorossi suffered back-to-back losses against Juventus and Torino.
As of this writing, Roma are at the fourth spot with 38 points and a win on this one will help them catch up to their derby rivals.
The Derby Della Capitale provides SBOBET fans a lot of history along with some fun matches, and we can expect more tension between these two clubs on Sunday evening.
Talking Points
Paulo Fonseca in for a tough challenge
AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca has done an admirable job on keeping his team in check since they’ve been dealing with a spate of injuries to their key players.
In their most recent match against Juve, the Giallorossi looked gassed and deflated when they conceded two quick goals under 10 minutes courtesy of Merih Demiral and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Their midfield in particular particularly takes a hit as Javier Pastore is suffering from a calf injury while the young Nicolo Zaniolo tore his ACL during their game against Juventus. Henrikh Mkhitaryan goes in and out of the lineup for the most part due to a muscular injury.
But even with the tough hand, Fonseca continues to draw out production from the other guys. Edin Dzeko is as lethal as ever and he leads the team in scoring with eight goals plus assists so far this term. Diego Perotti, meanwhile, is expected to give Roma a huge boost after missing out last game.
Justin Kluivert and Cengiz Under have done a superb job in terms of filling in by using their fresh legs to outwork and out-hustle their opponents.
Chris Smalling and Leonardo Spinazzola are expected to be their rock at the backline and they are versatile enough t0 provide support in the middle when needed.
The Giallorossi’s depth will be tested once more when they face an in-form Lazio on Sunday, and shaving points against them will be a much tougher task this time around.
Can Lazio be stopped?
The Biancocelesti have been nothing short of dominant as they defeated all challengers, including some of Serie A’s best teams.
They are coming off of a blowout victory over Sampdoria where they finished with a 5-1 tally. But their most impressive victories were their huge 3-1 wins against Juventus both in Serie A and in the Italian Supercoppa.
Ciro Immobile continues to fire in goals as he leads the league with 23 already while producing some topnotch Serie A 2020 highlights. In their game against Sampdoria, the prolific striker scored a hat-trick to lead his team to their 11th straight win.
Other than Immobile, Felipe Caicedo and Bartolomeu Quissanga have shown some improvement as well by netting one goal each and creating attacking opportunities versus Sampdoria. These two will have to keep up their fine play since Lazio have their sights at the title.
Joaquin Correa and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic continue to be their cornerstones at the middle and they will obviously play a huge role moving forward.
Lazio will have an easier schedule for the next few weeks as they’ll face lower-seeded teams in S.P.A.L., Verona, and Parma – which means that their winning streak can extend up to 15 games.
History
Their first derby match dates back to December 1929 where AS Roma scored a 1-0 victory.
Fireworks are always expected in this drama-filled affair as 24 red cards were handed out since the turn of the century.
AS Roma have lost their last two home games in Serie A, while Lazio are enjoying an 11-game winning streak.
