Premier League: Who Will be the Top Stars Next Season?

The Premier League is arguably the most competitive football league in the world because of its abundance of star power.

Mohamed Salah and Heung-Min Son were the top scorers during the 2021/22 season, and both are going to star once more for their respective clubs, Liverpool and Tottenham.

But other than those two, there are others who are also aiming to establish themselves and they’re more than capable of producing several Premier League 2022 highlights starting in August when the new 2022/23 campaign kicks off.

So, who are going to be the faces of English top-flight next season? Continue to read on below as SBOTOP lists down the top candidates who are likely to be recognised as such.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool

The Egyptian King shoulders a bigger responsibility now that his long-time attacking partner Sadio Mane has joined Bayern Munich on a three-year deal. However, it’s nothing that he can’t handle.

He is, after all, last season’s Golden Boot winner and one of the top candidates for the Ballon d’Or. Moreover, Salah will form a new front quartet with summer acquisition Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota.

After falling short last season, Liverpool are out to reclaim another Premier League trophy and they should be confident about their chances since they’re highly favoured by the Premier League 2022 odds.

The Reds can only go far as Salah goes. And the good news for them is that he is in the thick of his prime, so we expect another great campaign from the Egyptian standout.

Heung-Min Son – Tottenham Hotspur

Despite their shiny new acquisitions so far this transfer window, Tottenham are still likely to depend on Heung-Min Son’s attacking brilliance if they are to finally end their trophy drought.

Son is a co-Golden Boot winner alongside Salah last term, and he’s one of the main reasons why the Spurs are back in the Champions League this upcoming season.

Like Salah, Son has weapons with him to contend with the best clubs in English top-flight, namely Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, and summer signings Richarlison and Ivan Perisic.

He is also at his physical prime and he’ll only continue to get better under Antonio Conte’s tutelage as long as he stays fit. At this point of his career, Son can make a case for being the greatest South Korean footballer ever.

Erling Haaland – Manchester City

The Sky Blues finally addressed their lack of a No. 9 by prying away Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

The last time he switched teams, Haaland impressed on his debut, and City fans expect something similar when he’ll play his first Premier League match for them in August.

Manchester City will come in with huge targets on their backs as they’ll defend their Premier League title, but they have a bigger fish to fry in the Champions League and they are optimistic that Haaland is their missing piece.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo made an emotional return last summer and despite a strong individual campaign, United couldn’t break into the top four of the English top-flight.

Reports claim that he is an unhappy camper at Old Trafford due to United’s lack of activity in the transfer market, which is understandable because he’s a man of ambition and approaching the twilight of his career.

United, though, aren’t putting him up for sale because of what he brings to the table. As Erik ten Hag pointed out during his first-ever press conference at Old Trafford, he expects goals from CR7.

He can still produce at a high rate for the Red Devils. But as we’ve learned from last season, he can no longer carry his beloved club all by himself so he’ll need help.

Gabriel Jesus -Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus has found a new home in Arsenal where he is expected to lead their front line.

The Brazilian forward had a fruitful stint with Manchester City, but with the arrival of Erling Haaland, he isn’t likely to get more opportunities to shine moving forward.

At City, Jesus notched 95 goals in 236 matches, so he should bring some threat to the Gunners’ attack. Also, he will be reunited with Mikel Arteta, who was Pep Guardiola’s right-hand man back in City.

Jesus will join a strong core of Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe, and Martin Odegaard as Mikel Arteta plans to continue their youth revolution.

Joining the Gunners represents Jesus’ chance of being the top dog for a club with high ambitions, as Arsenal are aiming to get a Champions League spot next season.
