Premier League: United Yet to Make a Big Splash While Others are Already Ahead

Liverpool and Manchester City have already invested big this summer so the rest of the pack here in the Premier League should make their moves in other to catch up and improve their Premier League 2022 odds for next term.

Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham in particular, have been aggressive in their pursuit for upgrades lately. On the other hand, Manchester United supporters remain understandably anxious about their club’s transfer moves, or lack thereof thus far.

With pre-season just around the corner, expect things to get busier in these next few days and SBOTOP is here to make sure that you’re up to date with all of the latest Premier League 2022 updates when it happens.

Gabriel Jesus to join Arsenal, Chelsea mulling Raheem Sterling swoop

Arsenal finally got their striker in Gabriel Jesus, who recently agreed to personal terms on a five-year deal. The Brazilian forward will move to North London for a fee of £45-M following Arsenal’s agreement with Manchester City.

The arrival of Erling Haaland to Manchester City would’ve limited Jesus’ opportunities next season, so this is the ideal move for the 25-year-old. Jesus is Arsenal’s fourth signing this summer following the arrivals of Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira, and Marquinhos.

Speaking of Manchester City, they are also in talks with Chelsea for a potential sale of Raheem Sterling as he’s entering the final year of his current contract.

Sterling, who has scored 131 goals since joining City from Liverpool in 2015, is considered as an upgrade on Thomas Tuchel’s options up front especially with Romelu Lukaku moving back to San Siro following a lacklustre campaign last season.

Blues owner Todd Boehly is ready to spend a ton to reinforce his new squad ahead of next season, so they’re determined to get Sterling and they’re also looking to strengthen their central defence.

Following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, the Blues have been keeping tabs on Jules Kounde, Matthijs de Ligt, and Nathan Ake.

Erik ten Hag era is officially underway

Erik ten Hag was recently seen at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground for the first day of their pre-season preparations.

Almost 30 players participated in the session, such as David de Gea, Donny van de Beek, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho, while others were absent since they’re still with their respective national teams.

They were all smiles during their first session, which is a great sign following their disastrous 2021-22 campaign. But the same can’t be said outside of Carrington as United have yet to make their first big move in the transfer market.

Manchester United are hopeful that they can seal the deal with prime target Frenkie de Jong this week as they continue to hold negotiation talks with Barcelona.

Recent reports claim that Manchester United rejected an offer from Barcelona which would’ve seen Harry Maguire move to Camp Nou as part of a swap deal involving Frenkie de Jong. Instead, the Blaugrana are leaning towards to accepting a fee around £69-M to send the Dutch midfielder to Old Trafford.

In other news, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to activate his player option for a one-year extension with the Red Devils. The club insists that the Portuguese superstar is not for sale amid interest from Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

CR7 is going to be an integral part in Erik ten Hag’s long-term plans despite claims that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is unhappy with United’s lack of transfer activity. In fact, ten Hag is reportedly keen on handing Ronaldo the captain’s armband.

Class Brazilians are in demand at North London

Richarlison and Raphinha are two names to watch out for in these next few days since both are being eyed by Tottenham as potential replacements for Steven Bergwijn, who’s expected to leave for Ajax this summer.

There were clamors for the Spurs to try and get Gabriel Jesus before. But acquiring the former City striker is no longer possible since he’s set to join their North London rivals, as mentioned earlier.

These two Brazilian forwards fit in Antonio Conte’s system as both have the pace, versatility, and finishing ability to complement their already formidable front duo of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Several reports suggest that Richarlison and Raphinha command an asking price from £50-M to somewhere around £70-M – a price that they can definitely afford.

Either one of them joining is certainly good news for Tottenham since it’s a huge step in the right direction in terms of trying to put an end to their trophy drought.
