Premier League: Red Devils Look to Halt Streaking Seagulls

Brighton Hove & Albion vs Manchester United

The Seagulls will host Manchester United at the Falmer Stadium on Saturday, as both clubs will look to build on their strong starts in their opening matches.

The Red Devils, fresh off a tight win against Fulham, are hoping to get a more comfortable result this time around. Meanwhile, Brighton were electric last time out, putting three goals past a 10-man Everton at Goodison Park.

It should be an exciting Premier League contest, and we here at SBOTOP have just the right tools to help your bets right before kick-off.

Talking Points

United would be wise to convert their chances

Manchester United fans were ecstatic way before their season opener against Fulham. Erik ten Hag, with INEOS’ backing, had done really well in the transfer window and avoided the usual mess United had to deal with in the past years.

With ten Hag acquiring his target signings, the new campaign promises to be a bright one after the mess that happened last season, where the Red Devils finished eighth—their lowest result in a Premier League campaign.

However, the match against Fulham did not quite deliver the expected end result that plenty of United fans hoped for. Bruno Fernandes missed a couple of golden chances to put United up two goals after Fulham keeper Bernd Leno stopped the midfielder’s point-blank efforts. Casemiro also missed a downward header, whilst Marcus Rashford wasn’t his usual self all game long.

Thankfully, they were fortunate enough to escape with a 1-0 win thanks to Joshua Zirkzee’s 87th-minute goal.

On defence, plaudits were reserved for debutant Noussair Mazraoui after a solid performance, along with Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez. Andre Onana was also decent between the sticks, saving Kenny Tete’s attempt from outside the box in the first half.

If United hope to get their second win in a row, then they cannot afford to be wasteful in front of goal. Brighton can, and will, punish them harshly.

The Fabian Hurzeler era is off to a flying start

Brighton & Hove Albion look to keep their momentum going in their upcoming Premier League clash with Man United
After beating Everton, Brighton Hove & Albion seek to win their next Premier League match against Manchester United

After parting ways with Roberto De Zerbi, the Seagulls found their new manager in Fabian Hurzeler, a 31-year-old coach who led St. Pauli to their Bundesliga promotion last season.

His appointment made him the youngest Premier League manager in history. Last week, he had his chance to open his managerial account with a win against Everton.

He did not disappoint—not in the slightest.

Hurzeler had his side play brilliantly against Everton, as they pressed high and hit their opponents with a quick counter-attacking display. Their first goal came when Yankuba Minteh raced through the right wing and delivered a low cross that was met by Kaoru Mitoma.

Sean Dyche made no changes for Everton at the start of the second half, and that would eventually doom the Blues of Merseyside.

Brighton scored their second goal in the 56th minute after a costly error from Idrissa Gana Gueye in the middle of the pitch, which led to a swift counter-attack and ended in a Danny Welbeck goal.

And after a red card was issued to Ashley Young, the game was well and truly over.

The match was sealed after Simon Adingra converted Welbeck’s pass to give all three points to the away team.

History

The Red Devil have faced Brighton a total of 33 times—they came out victorious on 20 occasions, drawing six and losing seven.

Last season, Brighton surprised United with a 1-3 win at Old Trafford, with ten Hag having to wait until the final day of the season to exact his revenge.

After seven consecutive wins from January 2019 up to February 2022, United have found themselves in a slump, losing four of their last six meetings against the Seagulls.

Betting Tip

The Premier League 2024 odds have the Red Devils as the slight underdog in this one, and I guess it’s a warranted choice given the struggles United have as of late; they’re yet to be as cohesive as they would’ve hoped.

And with Brighton playing some exciting football, playing at home and on the back of a dominant win, their confidence would be at an all-time high for this match. They are priced at 2.34, whilst a stalemate is at 3.44.

It will be filled with Premier League 2024 highlights, and although the odds favour the home team, I’m backing Manchester United to sneak past a win for this one.
