Premier League: Is Ange Cooking Up Something at Spurs?

AFC Bournemouth vs Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham will aim to extend their unbeaten run so far in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign when they pay a visit to Bournemouth this Saturday at the Vitality Stadium.

Even with the departure of club icon Harry Kane, Ange Postecoglou’s men are off to a great start, and they are fresh from beating Manchester United last weekend at home with a 2-0 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth are looking for their first victory of the season. Andoni Iraola’s men are coming off a 1-1 draw against West Ham United and a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.

Iraola and Postecoglou are two new managers in the English top-flight this season, and both are looking to continue to stamp their authority on their clubs.

Talking Points

Can Bournemouth put it all together?

The Cherries under Andoni Iraola have shown some promise, but they have yet to get the positive Premier League 2023 results that they wanted in their first two games this season.

The main objective for the Cherries this season is to avoid the relegation battle altogether, so they cannot afford to have yet another poor start.

In his first taste of Premier League action, Iraola avoided defeat as Dominic Solanke scored the equaliser late to extend their undefeated streak during the opening matchday of the Premier League (W2, D2).

When Antoine Semenyo gave them a 1-0 lead after three minutes against Liverpool, they also got off to a strong start. However, a flurry of goals from Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Diogo Jota overpowered them.

Bournemouth are considered the underdogs once again against Tottenham, and it doesn’t help that they’re dealing with injuries to their key players.

Dango Ouattara, Ryan Fredericks, Marcus Tavernier, Lewis Cook, and Alex Scott aren’t available, while summer signing Tyler Adams is listed as questionable.

Hamed Traore, David Brooks, and Justin Kluivert are attacking alternatives for Iraola, while Semenyo should keep his spot up front alongside Philip Billing and Dominic Solanke.

Tottenham’s “Angeball” showing promise

We know it’s early, but Ange Postecoglou is seemingly transforming Tottenham into a dark horse that could possibly contend for trophies if everything goes to plan.

The Australian head coach has introduced a swashbuckling style of football, which is exciting if you’re a Spurs fan, and that was evident during their 2-0 win against Manchester United.

Tottenham’s midfield ran circles around Manchester United, and James Maddison was their main creative hub. With Casemiro often left alone on an island, the Spurs overloaded the centre of the park, which helped them create chances.

Pape Sarr gave the Spurs the lead for good after a deflected cross from Dejan Kulusevski. That was the Senegalese international’s first goal for the club after playing sporadically last season.

But Tottenham are sweating over Maddison’s fitness after he left on crutches against the Red Devils. With Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon, and Bryan Gil already sidelined, losing Maddison would be a huge blow, although they can still eke out a win against their hosts.

History

Prior to this weekend, Bournemouth and Tottenham had faced off 13 times, with the latter winning eight games, while the former won three games along with two draws.

One of the Cherries’ rare wins against the Spurs came in their meeting in April, when they defeated them on the road with a 3-2 scoreline in a game that featured five different goal scorers: Heung-Min Son, Arnaut Danjuma, Matias Vina, Dominic Solanke, and Dango Ouattara.

Bournemouth have never won consecutive league encounters with Tottenham before, and they have a great chance to do so this Saturday.

The Cherries can point to the Spurs’ woeful away form as the reason why they believe they can defeat them again, as the visitors have won just one of their last nine Premier League road games (D3, L5), conceding in all nine matches since a 1-0 victory at Fulham in January.

However, Tottenham have lost just one of their six Premier League road games against Bournemouth (W3, D2).

Betting Tip

The SBOTOP Premier League 2023 odds favour Tottenham getting their second consecutive league win. The Spurs are priced at 1.96, a Bournemouth victory is at 3.20, and a draw is at 3.65 in the 1X2 market.

The Cherries are going to have a difficult time slowing down the Spurs even if they’re at home this weekend because of their injuries, hence our recommended bet above. Other than the Asian Handicap, we also recommend going for Over 3.00 at 1.97 or even Total Goals 4-6 at 2.67.
