Brentford vs Liverpool
Brentford may have managed to put an end to their losing skid, but there’s still more work to do for them in order to steer clear of the dreaded drop zone here in the Premier League.
After beating the Wolves last time out, the Bees will have to go through a murderer’s row, as they’ll face Liverpool this weekend before Manchester United next Tuesday. As of this writing, Thomas Frank’s men are in 14th place with 25 points.
Meanwhile, Liverpool remain at the top of the English top-flight with 54 points following a 3-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday. However, you could argue that they are under more pressure than their hosts since Manchester City and Arsenal can easily overtake them if they drop points this weekend.
Talking Points
Toney starring again for Brentford
Ivan Toney is reportedly back on the radar for a possible England national team call-up, as he has hit the ground running since returning to Brentford, following an eight-month ban for breaking the English FA’s betting rules last year.
The 27-year-old striker only has one cap for the Three Lions so far, and after scoring his third goal in his last four appearances, head coach Thomas Frank believes that Toney deserves another shot with Gareth Southgate.
Last week, Thomas Frank also confirmed that Toney is likely to be sold in the summer, so the more he creates new Premier League 2024 highlights, the more his stock will rise, much to the benefit of Brentford.
Besides Ivan Toney, Brentford have other weapons in the form of Neal Maupay, Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, and Mathias Jensen.
Maupay and Mbeumo are the team’s joint-leading scorers for the Bees, with seven goals apiece, while Jensen and Wissa have four goals each.
Neal Maupay, who joined the Bees at the start of the 2023-24 campaign, has been a consistent starter up front since the start of the year, and he should continue to do so with Ivan Toney. However, the Frenchman has to be more clinical with his chances in the final third.
Liverpool trio set to return while Alexander-Arnold is out
Despite their positive run of results lately, Liverpool will need all hands on deck in order to eventually win the Premiership again. And this weekend, there’s good news since Mohamed Salah, Joe Gomez, and Allison Becker are available for selection.
Allison and Gomez missed the last game because they were both feeling under the weather, while Salah has dealt with a hamstring injury that he sustained while playing for Egypt during the recently concluded AFCON.
However, they will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold, as he picked up a knee injury against the Clarets. According to reports, the right-back will miss at least the next three games, including the EFL Cup final against Chelsea next week. Conor Bradley will take his place in the starting XI.
History
Liverpool and Brentford have already met a few weeks ago here in the 2023-24 campaign. As expected, it was the Reds who came away with the three points, as they defeated the Bees with a score of 3-0, courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah (brace) and Diogo Jota.
Interestingly, the hosts have never lost a Premier League encounter between Brentford and Liverpool (W4, D1), with Thomas Frank’s side winning this exact fixture by 3-1 last season. And Liverpool have both scored and conceded in all seven of their Premier League road matches against Brentford.
However, Brentford have been horrible at home lately, losing four of their last six, which is as many as they had in their previous 30 home league games (W15, D11, L4).
And for some reason, Brentford have lost their last two Premier League home matches after scoring the first goal (2-1 vs. Aston Villa and 3-1 vs. Manchester City).
Betting Tip
Liverpool are the favourites to win on Saturday, as per the updated SBOTOP Premier League 2024 odds. The Reds are installed at 1.56, while Brentford are 4.63 underdogs, and a draw is at 4.08 in the 1X2 market.
Since entering the Premier League, the Bees have caused some upsets here at the Gtech Community Stadium, but that won’t be the case this time since the Reds are on a rampant run.Other than our recommended bet above, you can also consider Over 3.25 at 2.06 or Total Goals 4-6 at 2.43, while a Correct Score of 3-0 in favour of Liverpool—the result of their reverse fixture—is being offered at a whopping 14.00.
