Premier League Leicester City vs Everton: Foxes Can Smell Victory

Leicester City vs Everton

Christmas is coming and that means the fixtures flow thick and fast in Europe’s top leagues, and in England we have some cracking matches to look forward to.

The top two meet when Jose Mourinho takes Spurs to Anfield, while Liverpool’s neighbours head south to take on a former Reds’ boss as Everton meet Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City, and that’s a fascinating prospect.

This Premier League Leicester City vs Everton clash is one between two of the early season front-runners, with the Foxes in third place and the Toffees in seventh.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton set off at breath-taking speed, winning their first four games and topping the league before a 2-2 draw with Liverpool ended their run. Since then, injuries have affected the Toffees and they have struggled to maintain the momentum, while the Foxes have won the last three and are in the mood for more.

Talking Points

Maddison has his shooting boots on

Attacking midfielder James Maddison was one of the Foxes’ standout players last season, earning England recognition, but his boss has asked him to add more goals to his creative play. He clearly has a fine shot in his armoury but his goal-tally hasn’t reflected his natural ability.

The Foxes’ clash with Brighton on Sunday night showcased Leicester’s attacking threat as they blew away the Seagulls with three first-half strikes and Maddison scored twice. He had a little luck with the first which took a wicked deflection, but his second was emphatic as he fired a beauty into the top corner.

No prizes for guessing who scored the Foxes’ other goal! Jamie Vardy had already hit a post before he got his name on the scoresheet.

Leicester have some serious riches in their attacking line-up, with Youri Tielemens and Harvey Barnes able to win a game with an individual piece of brilliance.

Skipper and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is in fine form too; he made a superb save to deny Danny Welbeck in a one-on-one. The last line of the Foxes’ defence is as reliable as ever.

Sigurdsson hits back for Everton

Premier League: Gylfi Sigurdsson and the rest of the Everton squad will travel to Leicester City for an intense clash
Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson scores against Chelsea during their latest encounter at the Goodison Park

After a disappointing run of results the Toffees got back to winning ways with an impressive 1-0 victory over Chelsea, at the weekend, ending the Blues’ 17-match unbeaten record in all competitions.

There were 2,000 fans to welcome them back into Goodison Park and they celebrated wildly as Gylfi Sigurdsson slotted home a 22nd minute penalty after Edouard Mendy had floored Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It was the Icelandic star’s first goal of the season as he’s struggled to hold down a place in the team, but with influential midfielder Fabien Delph out injured he put in a superb all-round performance and is set to continue.

The Toffees are without defensive duo Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne as well, but centre-back Michael Keane was outstanding in the win over Chelsea and he will be a key man if Everton are to withstand the Foxes’ threat on Wednesday night.

Vardy vs Calvert-Lewin

The King Power Stadium will be the venue for a potential shootout between two of the red-hot hitmen in the Premier League.

The 2020 Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy will line up for the Foxes, while Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin will hope to add to his 11 goals so far this season. The Toffees striker is the league’s leading scorer but with ten goals already in the bag Vardy is in joint second place.

Calvert-Lewin bagged his 11th in a 1-1 draw with Burnley last week and I suspect he’ll need to score another against the Foxes if he is to stay ahead of Vardy.

This is the Everton striker’s breakthrough campaign while Leicester’s artful fox has been at it for seasons!

History

The head-to-head Leicester City vs Everton results couldn’t be closer, with both teams winning nine of the 31 meetings in the Premier League era, and there have been 13 draws.

Everton won the last clash, at Goodison Park, 2-1, while the Foxes were triumphant by the same scoreline in last season’s fixture at the King Power Stadium when Vardy was on target.

Betting Tip

??
Leicester City vs Everton 1X2 Leicester City @ 2.29
December 17, 02:00 (GMT+8)

The Leicester City vs Everton betting odds here at SBOTOP suggest we’re in for a cracking contest which could go either way.

With Everton at 3.00 and the draw at 3.35, all three results are well in play for this fixture and you can make a case for each outcome. But I’m backing the Foxes, who have hit some impressive form, to beat an Everton side which will start without some key players.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
