Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Well folks, were finally here. The last weekend of the Premier League 2019/20 season is upon us and what a climax we have in store.
With Champions League places and relegation spots to be filled there will be fingernails bitten down to the bone, and when the last round is completed by early evening UK time, fans will be celebrating and commiserating the length and breadth of the country.
Premier League: Chelsea vs Wolves is one game with plenty riding on it. It matters a whole lot more for the Blues than the Wolves, with a Champions League place on offer for Chelsea, but Nuno Espirito Santo will have his team fired up for a big finish. Wolves are a quality outfit who have spent most of their last Premier League seasons in the top six, so this is not a game the Blues can take lightly, and nor will they.
Talking Points
Lamps is Chelsea through and through
The latest SBOBET odds are backing the Blues to finish the job on Sunday and if the pattern of their recent results carries on then they have no worries. They have been responding to defeats by winning a couple, and losing to new champions Liverpool might just spur them on to another victory.
Head coach Lampard came out fighting during and after Chelsea’s 5-3 defeat to Liverpool, apparently telling the Reds’ bench they shouldn’t ‘give it the big one’ having won just one Premier League title, compared to his three as a player with Chelsea. He probably hasn’t made too many friends in Liverpool but that won’t worry the Chelsea legend one bit.
He’s clearly planning an assault on the top two with his impressive recruitment strategy, bringing in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, and inching closer to a deal to bring Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz to Stamford Bridge.
Add those three to an already talented squad and the Blues could become real contenders. Last summers’ marquee signing Christian Pulisic is really starting to impress now and has scored nine goals, as has Brazilian ace Willian, while Olivier Giroud is back in the fold and has contributed seven crucial goals. Tammy Abraham remains top scorer with 15 goals, and the creative flair of young England stars Mason Mount and Reece James make this a superb attacking outfit.
It’s at the back where the Blues are having problems and that is something Lampard can learn from Jurgen Klopp, who brought in Alisson and Virgil van Dijk to turn Liverpool into league winners. Goalkeeper Kepa has had a poor season and Chelsea have conceded eight goals in their recent two defeats. They threw in a shocking performance to lose 3-0 to Sheffield United.
Consistency hasn’t been Chelsea’s strong point over the past two weeks, three times following up back to back wins with a defeat, but, like their manager, they showed a lot of fight against Liverpool and that will stand them in good stead on Sunday.
Europa Wolves
Two defeats and a draw from Wolves’ last five games have ended their ambitions to qualify for the Champions League. The visitors need to win and overturn a 15 goal deficit to catch Leicester City in fifth, but there is a risk they could slip to seventh if they fail to win at Stamford Bridge and Spurs beat Crystal Palace, who have been on a dismal run of form, losing the last seven games.
But it’s been another great season for Wolves and they will be in the Europa League again next term. Nuno Espirito Santo will be desperate to keep hold of his 17 goal striker Raul Jimenez. The Mexican is admired by top seven rivals after confirming what a good all-round forward he is.
History
Chelsea won the return match at Molineux, 2-5, as top scorer Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick; but the pre-match Chelsea vs Wolves betting odds predict a tighter match at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Blues should go into the game with plenty of confidence though; they have won five home games in a row, and are unbeaten against Wolves throughout the last six meetings at Stamford Bridge.
Betting Tip
Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers | 1X2 Chelsea @ 1.86 | |
July 26, 22:00 (GMT+8) |
The draw is at 3.54 with Wolves out at 3.74 to win, and both results are perfectly possible, but Chelsea’s greater need is likely to push them on to grab the win.
2-3 goals is an alternative bet, at odds of 1.88, but I think the Blues will come out all guns blazing for this one, and with their defence a little wobbly I can see Wolves’ creative players having some success too.
This promises to be a great game in which the Blues should come out on top. We’ll be back on Sunday with the Chelsea vs Wolves highlights… by which time we’ll know for sure.
