Los Blancos Smash Sevilla with a Big Five!

Cristiano Ronaldo hit a brace as Real Madrid gave Sevilla a real hiding in the 15th round of La Liga football games on a weekend of fantastic action and drama.

Another win for Barca sees the Catalans stay five points clear at the top, with betting odds suggesting the title could be returning to the Camp Nou. But there’s a long way to go and probably four teams in it.

Real Madrid 5-0 Sevilla

Pre-match betting tips pointed to a tight affair when fifth-placed Sevilla turned up in Madrid on the back of three wins. But fourth-placed Real had this one sewn up by the break with goals from Ronaldo, Nacho, Toni Kroos and Achraf Hakimi, with his first for Los Blancos, giving everyone the second half off!

Villarreal 0-2 Barcelona

A red card for Villarreal’s Dani Raba gave Ernesto Valverde’s leaders the opening they needed, having been frustrated by the Yellow Submarine throughout the first half. Luis Suarez and Leo Messi were the goal-scorers, preserving Barca’s lead at the top.

Valencia 2-1 Celta Vigo

A late spot-kick by Dani Parejo gave Valencia a hard-fought win at the Mestalla to keep them in second place. Simone Zaza headed the hosts in front, only to be pegged back by Iago Aspas early in the second half. But Tucu Hernandez’ 81st-minute foul gave Parejo the chance for glory.

Real Betis 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Atletico stay third and just a point behind Valencia after edging a close encounter against Real Betis. Saul Niguez scored the winner on 29 minutes to leave Atletico an hour to negotiate before collecting all three points.

Getafe 0-0 Eibar

Getafe are up to seventh after a goalless draw with Eibar, but the visitors had a golden chance to take all three points at the Alfonso Perez. Joan Jordan missed a spot-kick which would have taken Eibar above the hosts.

Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 Leganes

Adrian gave Depor a first win in five, with a first-half header, to keep the hosts’ heads above water, three points above the drop zone. Carles Gil almost made it two, hitting the crossbar, but Deportivo hung on for a deserved victory.

Real Sociedad 0-2 Malaga

Two penalties handed Malaga a shock result which took them off the foot of the table and consigned Real Sociedad to a second successive defeat. Borja Baston scored the first spot-kick, and when his second was saved, Chory Castro was on hand to hammer in the rebound.

Levante 1-2 Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao won a priceless three points to pull five points above the drop zone and extend their unbeaten run to four games. Aritz Aduriz put the visitors in front from the penalty spot. Levante equalised when Aymeric Laporte put through his own net on 73 minutes, but Sergio Postigo returned the compliment soon after.

Alaves 2-0 Las Palmas

The weekend opener was a real basement battle, and it was Alaves who came out on top thanks to strikes from Ibai Gomez and Munir El Haddadi. Alaves are up to 18th at the expense of Las Palmas who take over the bottom spot.

RCD Espanyol 0-1 Girona

Girona rounded off the weekend’s football with a win in Barcelona where Espanyol had the better of the early exchanges. David Timor converted from a corner on the stroke of half-time and that was enough to take the points home.
