The summer transfer window is about to close in just a few days, which gives several clubs a huge sense of urgency to complete their moves before the deadline.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are the teams who are the busiest in La Liga as all of them have big plans to win the trophy this season.
They may have different ways to go about it, but neither of them were affected in a negative way considering their fast start in the first matchday.
The two Madrid teams in Real and Atleti are planning to increase their La Liga 2021 odds for a title with key additions, whereas Barcelona are still adjusting to life without long-time star Lionel Messi.
Today at SBOTOP, we examine the Big 3’s transactions with our latest serving of La Liga 2021 updates.
Real Madrid are going all in
After being quiet in the previous transfer windows, this time, Real Madrid are preparing themselves for a possible blockbuster move.
With the money that they’ve received from the sales of Raphael Varane and Martin Odegaard, Real Madrid have raised substantial funds to try and swing for the fences.
Los Blancos have recently made a whopping €160-M bid for Kylian Mbappe, who reportedly wants to move to the Bernabeu to fulfill his childhood dream.
Mbappe’s future with PSG has been a hot topic since his current deal expires in 2022. The young Frenchman reportedly refused to sign an extension, so it’s natural that he’ll garner numerous suitors.
The Parisiens had one of the best summer windows ever with the acquisitions of Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, and Gianluigi Donnarumma with hopes that they could change Kylian Mbappe’s mind, but so far that has yet to happen.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid were able to secure the futures of Fede Valverde, Thibaut Courtois, and Karim Benzema.
Fede Valverde’s extension will run through until 2027 and he’ll be the fulcrum in midfield especially with the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Casemiro getting older.
Karim Benzema, on the other hand, will stay for at least one more season while Thibaut Courtois’ new deal ensures that he’ll be at the Bernabeu until 2026.
Barcelona finding a way to sell fringe players
The Blaugrana have £1.15-B in debt. And in order to get out of it, they must offload several key players.
For the past few months, Barcelona have put up the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Philippe Coutinho, Antoine Griezmann, and Miralem Pjanic on sale but rival teams have yet to show any interest towards them.
Samuel Umtiti has only appeared a few times since Ronald Koeman took over. AS Roma initially had interest on the centre-back, but negotiations have stalled as of the moment.
Philippe Coutinho has been linked to a possible reunion at Anfield, but he isn’t in Liverpool’s plans for now since they are loaded in the midfield and out front.
Miralem Pjanic has been reportedly offered to Fiorentina via loan recently, but La Viola shut them down as they’ve decided to bring in Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira instead.
Antoine Griezmann is one of the club’s highest earners and Barcelona are aiming to move him whenever possible. However, there aren’t much offers and the Frenchman is apparently keen on extending his stay at Camp Nou.
It’s safe to say that all of these players will continue to wear the Barca uniform at least until January 2022 and Ronald Koeman has to find a way to utilise them in order to maximise their large wage bills.
Atletico Madrid sign a new striker
Los Rojiblancos found their reinforcement out front in Matheus Cunha while they’re preparing for the imminent departure of Saul Niguez.
Hertha BSC and Atletico Madrid reportedly agreed in principle to bring over the Brazilian striker for a fee of €30-M.
Prior to acquiring Matheus Cunha, Atletico Madrid were actively pursuing Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina, but the Serie A side wasn’t willing to sell their striker.
Cunha had an up-and-down season with Hertha in the Bundesliga last term with seven goals in 27 appearances, but he has done well playing for Brazil in last month’s Tokyo Olympics.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are going to listen to loan-to-buy offers from Premier League clubs for Saul Niguez.
He’s been linked to Chelsea and Manchester United and he could come in and contribute right away should a deal be completed before the deadline.
Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing in competition alongside N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, and Mateo Kovacic, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needs a high quality CDM to be paired with Paul Pogba.
