Real Betis vs Real Madrid
Real Betis are aiming for their first three points of the 2021/22 season as they’ll host Real Madrid at the Benito Villamarin Stadium.
Los Verdiblancos have had a slow start after the first two matchdays and now they find themselves at the 10th spot at the La Liga table with only two points.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side could’ve been in the top four if they won against their lower-tier opponents but they simply couldn’t get the job done. And against a team like Real Madrid, who are off to fast start, Real Betis have to earn their win the hard way.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are placed third with four points. After thrashing Alaves in the first matchday, Los Blancos hit a slight bump on the road when they were held by Levante last weekend.
A big battle at Andalusia awaits for these two clubs. So today at SBOTOP, we’ll give you a glimpse on what to expect here in this match preview.
Talking Points
Real Betis need a bonafide finisher
Los Verdiblancos have had a humbling start to their campaign as they were held to back-to-back 1-1 draws against Mallorca and Cadiz.
In both instances, Real Betis played catch up since they would fall behind by one goal, which shouldn’t happen against Real Madrid this weekend.
Despite having more total shots on target in those games, Manuel Pellegrini’s men seem to have trouble finishing their chances which highlights the fact that they’re missing a topnotch striker.
Juanmi is the only guy who has opened his account this season with one goal. But considering his low output last season, Real Betis would need more from their other key players.
Sergio Canales and Nabil Fekir both have the quality to generate goals and La Liga 2021 highlights, but neither are capable of being the club’s consistent No. 9 since they operate more in the midfield.
Borja Iglesias, who was their leading scorer last term with 11 goals, is expected to spearhead their attack this term. But overall, Manuel Pellegrini may need to be more creative with his tactics to turn this thing around.
Vinicius Jr. is thriving with Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti may need to consider tweaking his starting XI after seeing their first two games of the season.
After being criticised for his lack of finishing ability in recent years, Vinicius Jr. has been silencing his doubters given that he has tallied three goals already this term.
His first came against Alaves when he headed the ball home after a sumptuous cross from David Alaba in added time and he followed it up with a masterful performance against Levante.
When Los Blancos were trailing, Casemiro teed up Vinicius Jr. at the 73rd minute to equalise, but Levante reclaimed the lead four minutes later with a goal from Rober Pier.
Real Madrid were in danger to lose all three points up until the Brazilian scored off of his right foot at the 85th minute to secure a point on the road.
Vinicius Jr. has been solid at the left wing for Los Blancos recently, which begs the question on whether he’s ready for a bigger role moving forward.
Should Ancelotti make him a full-time starter, Vinicius Jr. would most likely replace Eden Hazard given the Belgian’s injury history.
History
Real Madrid have been the better team versus Real Betis especially if you’ll look at their recent head-to-heads.
In their last 10 games against each other, Real Madrid have won five times while Real Betis won in two along with three draws.
Los Blancos have won in their last five visits against Andalusian clubs in La Liga, which is their longest away streak in the tournament.
Moreover, they’ve scored seven goals already in their first two La Liga games this season, which is their best scoring start since the 2011/12 campaign under Jose Mourinho.

Real Betis can offer some sort of resistance against Real Madrid as shown in their previous matchups, but it will take an off-night for the latter for the hosts to get the win.
