It certainly seems that way. Yes, it’s still three points for a win but with time running out the pressure rises and that makes big football games mean that bit more.
Up and down the UK there are clashes with something vital at stake, without exception, and for neutrals, there are fantastic Premier League betting chances all the way from Newcastle to Bournemouth.
WEEK 30 SATURDAY:
West Ham United vs Burnley
David Moyes seemed to be pulling the Hammers away from danger but consecutive 4-1 defeats leave them just three points above the drop. Burnley got back to winning ways against Everton last week and haven’t been in danger all season. The Clarets might just have their eyes on a Europa place.
West Bromwich Albion vs Leicester City
Is it a lost cause at the Hawthorns? Six consecutive defeats, in all competitions, would suggest it is. The Baggies finished tenth last EPL season, but they’d bite your hand off if you offered 17th right now, but that’s eight points away. They simply must beat the eighth-placed Foxes, which won’t be easy with Riyad Mahrez back in the fold.
Everton vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Everton brought Big Sam in to do a jo, and he’s just about done it. The Toffees are comfortable in 11th but their fans aren’t happy; they want to see good football, too. There’s no pleasing some people! Brighton fans are delirious with the work Chris Hughton has done, 11 points from five games has lifted them above their hosts.
Huddersfield Town vs Swansea City
What a clash we have in West Yorkshire where two teams just above the drop zone meet in a match both will fancy. Swansea are on the up, though, with four wins in the last six, while the Terriers have lost four of theirs and are struggling for their lives.
Newcastle United vs Southampton
There’s even more pressure up in the North East where the Magpies, currently 16th and two points above the drop zone, host the Saints who are just a place and a point lower. Both teams have trouble scoring but in Dusan Tadic and James Ward Prowse, Southampton have more players capable of unlocking a tight defence.
WEEK 30 SUNDAY:
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
What betting odds would you have got on the Champions missing out on a top four spot? Well, four defeats in five for Antonio Conte’s men have made it a real danger. Palace are in peril too having lost the last two games, against Manchester United and Spurs, in the dying minutes and are back in the bottom three.
Arsenal vs Watford FC
Arsenal fans have been voicing their frustration in recent years, still winning more trophies than their rivals Spurs but used to even more. Maybe they better get to grips with a new reality, unless their highly talented squad can play as a team. Watford have won three in four and won’t fear the Emirates or its crowd.
WEEK 30 MONDAY:
Bournemouth vs Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs have a lot on their plates at the moment, not least hanging on to the precious fourth place they currently occupy. And with Chelsea likely to win a day before, the cushion could be down to two points. Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth are always up for a challenge and won’t sit back.
WEEK 30 TUESDAY:
Stoke City vs Manchester City
You could almost say Stoke have more to play for in this one. City are 16 points clear at the top with nine games left while the Potters are 19th and haven’t won in the last five. I can’t imagine it getting much better for Paul Lambert and he may just have to watch the Sky Blues click through the gears.
