Bundesliga: The Wolves Will Devour the Eagles When the Time is Right

VfL Wolfsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt

There’s more fantastic Bundesliga action on the way folks when Eintracht Frankfurt head to the Volkswagon Arena on Sunday to meet early pace setters Wolfsburg.

Four Bundesliga 2021 results don’t tell the whole story of the contrasting starts of these two big teams but, while they tussled in the top four throughout the 2020/21 season, they currently sit first and 15th in the league table.

The Wolves are flying high while the Eagles stumble amongst the basement dwellers!

And there is more intrigue in this huge game as Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner comes face-to-face with his old club — who he guided to a top four finish last term — while his new club slipped to fifth place on the very final day.

Wolfsburg will be keen to show their former head coach just what he is missing and the time is right for the Wolves to give the Eagles and their leader an uncomfortable reception on Sunday.

Talking Points

Mark van Bommell is at home in Wolfsburg

Former Dutch playing legend and PSV Eindhoven boss Mark van Bommell has settled into the hot seat vacated by Glasner, and it couldn’t have gone any better for the new head honcho.

A comfortable 2-0 win away to new boys Greuther Furth last week made it four wins in four to give the Wolves a clear two-point lead at the top of the table.

He strengthened his team with the signings of highly-sought after defender Sebastian Bornauw from Koln, while Lukas Nmecha and Maximillion Philipp provide good support for the main man up front in Wout Weghorst.

The Bundesliga 2021 betting odds have duly installed Wolfsburg as fourth favourites to win the title, though some distance behind FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig. But a 1-0 victory over rivals Leipzig in the third match of the season have signalled van Bommell’s intentions.

While the boss has settled well, so has his new recruits and particularly Nmecha. The former Manchester City academy player was on target in Wolfsburg’s win over Greuther last time out.

At just 22 years of age, he looks a real prospect since he’s able to play up front in support of Weghorst or on either wing with great ball control and his electrifying pace will give many a defender a hard time.

Draws not enough for Eintracht

Frankfurt’s new head coach Glasner has picked his side up from an opening day mauling at the hands of Borussia Dortmund when BVB hitman Erling Haaland kicked off his season with a brace.

The manager has steadied the ship and the Eagles have earned three draws – a 0-0 against Augsburg, and 1-1 draws with Bielefeld and Stuttgart.

They have also opened their Europa League campaign with a 1-1 against Turkish club Fenerbahce to make it four stalemates on the bounce.

But three draws and a defeat is a poor return, particularly against relatively modest opposition. And in 15th place on three points, they are far away from the team which started the 2020/21 campaign with eight points from four games and a fourth spot, which they held for much of the season.

Following the summer departure of star striker Andre Silva to RB Leipzig, the Eagles have been light up front and that arguably cost them a first win of the season last week against Stuttgart.

Serbian wide-man Filip Kostic was on target late in the game and it really should have been three points for Glasner’s men when the visitors went down to 10 men on 82 minutes as Waldermor Anton was sent off.

But Omar Marmoush stunned the Frankfurt crowd with an 88th minute equaliser and there was more heartache for the Eagles on 94 minutes when Rafael Borre took a pass from Kostic but could only smash his shot against the crossbar.

History

Wolfsburg are well in front in the head-to-heads by 21 victories to eight, while there have been 13 draws in all competitions since 1996.

The last time the two sides met, Eintracht edged a seven-goal thriller as Silva was on target for Frankfurt and Weghorst for the Wolves.

In terms of recent form, the Wolves have a clear edge too. Eintracht haven’t won in six games while drawing the last four.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg are unbeaten in six with four league wins and two cup draws, including the 0-0 with Lille on Tuesday.

Betting Tip

??
VfL Wolfsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt  1X2 VfL Wolfsburg @ 1.87
September 20, 01:30 (GMT+8)

With the draw at SBOTOP odds of 3.44 and Eintracht at 3.88, a home win is odds on and that’s where my money’s heading.

I just think that the Wolves have all the momentum and with a passionate home crowd they will have too much for the Eagles.

2-3 goals at odds of 1.96 and a 2-1 scoreline at 6.76 are worth a look too as alternative bets.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
