Bundesliga: High-Flying Eagles Host Deadly Wolves in Top-Four Clash

Eintracht Frankfurt vs VfL Wolfsburg

The Bundesliga’s marquee match this weekend is undoubtedly the big battle of two Champions League-bound clubs: fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt against third-placed Wolfsburg.

Both sides have had surprisingly strong seasons but in different ways. The Eagles have had one of the highest-scoring offences in the league spearheaded by Andre Silva, while the Wolves have leaned primarily on a league-leading defence for their success.

The Bundesliga 2021 betting odds will be very close as these two teams are evenly matched. But read on below to see who might have the edge in this much-anticipated top-four clash.

Talking Points

Frankfurt still flying high

Eintracht Frankfurt have seemingly secured their spot in the top four after picking up a big 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund last weekend. That result leaves the Eagles seven points clear of BVB with just seven matches remaining in the season.

Andre Silva scored the winning goal three minutes from time. The Portuguese striker is now up to second in the goalscoring charts with 22 goals on the season and has been a major reason for Frankfurt’s success.

Filip Kostic, who supplied the assist to Silva’s goal, has been equally crucial to the Eagles’ rise. The Serbian playmaker has contributed four goals and 11 assists this season.

On the other end, Frankfurt have allowed their fair share of goals; they have kept just one clean sheet over their last 13 league games.

But their defence has been able to hold up well enough for them to pick up some fine results over the last few months, the biggest of which was when they defied the Bundesliga 2021 betting odds by beating Bayern Munich at home.

Frankfurt have been outstanding at home all season. They are one of three teams along with Bayern and Wolfsburg to remain undefeated at home (seven wins and six draws in 13) and have won six of their last seven league games at the Deutsche Bank Park.

Wout Weghorst has already scored 17 goals in Bundesliga

Wolfsburg just keep winning

Wolfsburg’s impressive run of results continues. The Wolves won their third game in a row and ninth in their last 11 games after edging out Koln 1-0 last weekend. The in-form Josip Brekalo scored the winner, his third goal in four games for club and country.

Wolfsburg’s leading scorer, Wout Weghorst, was unable to extend his three-match scoring run, but he did still set up Brekalo’s goal. The 28-year-old Dutchman has been responsible for a majority of Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga 2021 highlights this season with 17 goals and six assists in 27 matches.

Wolfsburg are hardly the most entertaining team to watch. They play quite a conservative style and prefer to grind out results. But no one can deny that they have found a winning formula with Weghorst’s consistent goalscoring and outstanding defence, which has seen them rise up to third in the table.

The Wolves have conceded just 22 goals in 27 games – tied with Leipzig for the best defensive record in the league – and have conceded the third-fewest shots.

With the threat Eintracht Frankfurt’s forwards pose, Wolfsburg will likely be even more careful and disciplined defensively. But despite their primarily defensive approach, the Wolves usually find a way to score away from home. They’ve done so in all but one of their 14 away matches thus far and have won five of their last six away from the Volkswagen Arena.

History

Wolfsburg have had the upper hand in their recent head-to-head matchups with Eintracht Frankfurt. The Wolves have a 12-5 edge in wins over their last 26 league meetings, with nine draws.

Wolfsburg came out on top in their first meeting of the season. Weghorst scored twice, including the winner in the 88th minute, as they came from behind to win 2-1.

Curiously, Wolfsburg’s win was the first by a home side between the two clubs in their last eight meetings. The away side had won six of the previous seven games, with Wolfsburg winning at the Waldstadion on four of those occasions.

Betting Tip

??
Eintracht Frankfurt vs VfL Wolfsburg 1X2 Draw @ 3.55
April 10, 21:30 (GMT+8)

SBOTOP odds have Eintracht Frankfurt as very slight 2.35 favourites at home over Wolfsburg, who are priced at 2.77 to pick up another away win. Meanwhile, a draw is 3.55, and that is the result I am leaning toward.

This match looks like it has all the makings of a stalemate. For one, the two sides have drawn a combined 20 of 54 games this season, which indicates that they are not opposed to sharing the spoils.

Moreover, neither has much incentive to risk a defeat. Their top-four spots are fairly comfortable at the moment, so a point apiece would suit both parties quite well.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
