1. FC Nurnberg vs Borussia Dortmund
This is not a knock at Nuernberg, but this Bundesliga fixture is the easiest result to predict in the coming weekend.
They will welcome Borussia Dortmund, the outstanding league leaders, to the Max-Morlock-Stadion in what is supposed to become another one-sided rout. They have not won any of the football games they have participated in the past two months and their relegation back to 2. Bundesliga is all but certain.
However, they have a chance at a result if Dortmund’s lacklustre performance in their last two games carries over to this match. Die Ruhmreiche can upset with another draw — perhaps even a victory — if they manage to create the most hostile environment to distract the BVB from playing their usual brand of football.
They would be the centre of Bundesliga 2019 news sites if they manage a result. However, the truth still stings: they are still the underdogs in their own backyard.
Talking Points
Will Nurnberg find any relief?
Nurnberg are the whipping boys of the season and have more or less secured their tickets back to the lower tier of German football. Their last five games have been so disappointing that many SBOBET Bundesliga fans steer clear of Die Ruhmreiche when it comes to their punts.
Thirteen of their 21 league games have ended in defeat, and things seem to only get worse for the relegation-bound club. They made a coaching switch in February in a bid to survive and play Bundesliga for one more season, but I personally don’t think that Boris Schommers has enough time to make do with the cards he has been dealt.
Nuernberg’s problems are so painfully clear that it only takes a quick peek at the Bundesliga table to understand what is happening with the team. They join Stuttgart as the lowest-scoring outfits in the German top flight. They also have the leakiest defences as the backline conceded 44 in their league games.
If Schommers were to turn things around for Nuernberg, he would have to make a lot of changes. First of all, he must find the perfect attacking players to help them score goals. Hanno Behrens and Mikael Ishak are the team’s top scorers and must step up once again. Moreover, their defence also needs some work as their loose defence always equates to losses.
They still have a chance at a draw if they play their cards right. However, there’s no doubt that the Nurnberg vs Borussia Dortmund odds are still stacked against them.
The BVB badly need this win
Borussia Dortmund need no introduction at all, but their past couple of games have been far from encouraging.
They did start the calendar year with solid performances, but their most recent results see them alternate between draws and losses. Their DFB-Pokal run was unfortunately cut short by Werder Bremen. They drew against Frankfurt and Hoffenheim in between that game before suffering an utter meltdown during the second half of their match against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Lucien Favre is hitting the panic button immediately. He still has exciting players at his disposal. Jadon Sancho, Lukasz Pisczcek, and Achraf Hakimi are exciting young talents that complement the established attacking prowess of Marco Reus (despite him being out due to injury).
There is no reason for them to lose this match, and I will be baffled if they don’t take the three points. However, a quick consideration of their most recent results shows that a draw is still very much possible. I hope that they don’t leave Nurnberg even more frustrated than before.
History
These two have faced each other a grand total of 66 times since 1963, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that the BVB had Die Ruhmreiche‘s number over the years.
Of those 66 games they have played, Dortmund won 33 of those fixtures, albeit the majority of those were won at home. Nurnberg won 14 times, and they split the honours 19 times. Their most recent matches also point to Dortmund easily winning. In fact, Nurnberg’s 7-0 loss happened during the season’s early days.

There is no doubt that Borussia Dortmund are way above Nuernberg’s level of football. They just have too good of a roster that any permutation of their starting XI can take care of Nuernberg’s best lineup.
While I believe that Nurnberg can score one goal, I believe that Favre’s lads can pull off a fantastic result and continue their reign at the top of German football.
