Bundesliga: Bayern Catch Up In Dominant Display

Borussia Monchengladbach 1-5 Bayern Munich

The burden of being a certain football league’s strongest club is that you are always expected to win. This is the reason why fans understandably gave Bayern Munich a lot of flak when they fell off the Bundesliga table.

However, Niko Kovac and the rest of FC Hollywood kept their heads down and focused on dominating every game they could. Slowly but surely they climbed up the league table. They finally had a chance at finally catching up to Borussia Dortmund stuttered at Augsburg.

The Bavarians then went out against Augsburg and put one of the most lop-sided Bundesliga 2019 results. A superb brace from Robert Lewandowski was the star of the 5-1 rout they handed Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bayern fans are more than happy that they finally caught up, and the SBOBET football markets are reshuffled as the German top flight is set for a big climax.

Highlights of the game

Dortmund’s shocking loss to Augsburg most likely lit a fire among the Bayern players because they came to the match firing in all cylinders. In fact, they scored a really quick goal right after kick-off.

James Martinez took the very first corner of the match, and the ball flew quickly straight to the head of Javi Martinez. The Spaniard headed it straight to the top-right corner, and there was nothing neither Yann Sommer nor Dieter Hecking could do but just shrug it off and play the rest of the game coming from behind.

However, the game would see another quick goal from the Bavarians as they continued their spirited display. Thomas Muller was responsible for the second goal. The raumdeuter, who is planning on playing until he’s 35, beat the offside trap fired a powerful shot that was spilt by Sommer. He managed to get to the rebound and launched it to the open goal.

It was clear from that point on that the game is more or less settled for the Bavarians. Many Bundesliga 2019 predictions saw them winning this game without any problems. After all, it’s hard for a team that is struggling the way Gladbach does to make a significant comeback in the game. However, Lars Stindl had other plans.

He managed to pull one back in the 37th minute after some good play between him and Thorgan Hazard finally bore fruit. He managed to slip past his mark, and Hazard made a brilliant pass that went through Niklas Sule’s legs. He only touched the ball once and fired the shot near the left post. Manuel Neuer couldn’t do anything but watch.

Kovac had to make some adjustments to his half-time talk as Hecking could use Stindl’s goal as fuel to mount a comeback. He most likely instructed his boys to finish the job in the second half and extinguish any hopes of them repeating the incredible upset they pulled off in October.

Captain Robert Lewandowski heeded his gaffer’s calls and immediately re-established the two-goal lead right after the start of the second half. He lurked in between Nico Elvedi and Matthias Ginter as he got a beautiful pass from Thiago Alcantara, and the goal he produced from the moment is nothing short of spectacular.

Serge Gnabry put this game beyond doubt when he scored the fourth goal. Joshua Kimmich was running up the right wing in the 75th minute when he launched a precise low cross to Lewandowski. The Poland international quickly bulleted a header towards goal that Sommer managed to block. A scramble for the ball happened inside the box, and the former Arsenal man got to the ball first to slot it home.

Lewandowski added insult to injury when he converted a penalty that was given due to Hazard’s holding foul. It was a terrible time for Gladbach fans at Borussia-Park while the traveling Munich supporters were head over heels after the result.

Key statistics

This is the first time in five games that Muller started a competitive football game for Bayern. His performance after this game will make it hard for Kovac to take him off the XI. He made three key passes and finished the games with 1.28 expected goals and 1.08 expected assists.

Bayern as a team also performed as well as their raumdeuter. They got the football 63% of the 90 minutes played, and they managed to put 14 of their 19 shots on target. Their hard-nosed defence got them two yellow cards, but that approach only saw Die Fohlen put two of their 11 attempts towards the goal.

Confidence is high among Bayern Munich fans as they can finally see the summit of the German top flight. Another 5-1 display at home against Wolfsburg should see them stay top on goal difference if Dortmund manages to stop their mighty collapse. After the Wolfsburg game is an all-important duel against Liverpool to reach the next stage of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Gladbach have now lost three of their last four games and are in danger of slipping outside the Champions League places. They must snag some wins against Mainz and Freiburg if they want to ward Frankfurt and Leverkusen off fourth.
