After years of Juventus dominance, could this be the year Napoli takes the Bianconeri down?
Our handicap betting odds on the winner of Scudetto has Maurizio Sarri’s team at 1.95 against Juventus at 2.25, and that’s been unheard of during a string of Juventus triumphs. Napoli lead Serie A but are being matched, stride for stride, by Inter with five wins and a draw in the last six games. Meanwhile, Lazio fans are backing their team to stay in the fight after six consecutive wins.
So Napoli is in pole position. However, this weekend’s football games give the chasers a chance, all with home fixtures while Napoli is away.
WEEK 12 SUNDAY:
Bologna vs Crotone
Roberto Donadoni will be determined to turn around his team’s form after the home side followed up three wins with three defeats, while 15th-placed Crotone picked up a victory last week after back-to-back defeats, so they will arrive in good spirits.
Genoa vs Sampdoria
12 points from the last six games have lifted Sampdoria to sixth and a visit to the Luigi Farraris Stadium in Genoa presents another opportunity. The hosts haven’t won at home in five attempts and have slipped to 18th.
Inter Milan vs Torino
Mauro Icardi, with 11 goals, has been in electrifying form, and, if Napoli slips up, Inter could pounce from just two points behind. Torino have been inconsistent and have slipped to ninth so, at 1.87 with a -1.00 goal handicap, Inter should prosper.
Chievo vs Napoli
Napoli’s great run has been punctuated by two Champions League defeats at the hands of Manchester City but back in the league, inspired by Dries Mertens ten goals, they have been in top form. 11th-placed Chievo has had back-to-back defeats and Napoli are at 2.11 to win with a -1.50 goals handicap.
Juventus vs Benevento
Juventus, remember them, are only three points from the summit, so the odds on an outright winner could shift dramatically, and quickly. Benevento are yet to register a single point since their arrival in the top division and are still odds against to win, at 2.09, with a +3.00 goal start.
Lazio vs Udinese
While Napoli and Inter take on the Old Lady, let’s not forget Lazio, with six league wins in six, level on points with Juve and with their own hitman Ciro Immobile on 14 goals. This game isn’t a gimme though as Udinese arrives in Rome with back-to-back wins.
Fiorentina vs AS Roma
The Viola had three wins on the bounce until a surprise defeat to Crotone last week, The Florence club are only two places behind fifth-placed Roma but the gap is eight points. Roma have followed up three league wins with an impressive victory over Chelsea and are still in the hunt for the top spot.
Sassuolo vs AC Milan
Milan are targeting Chelsea’s unhappy manager Antonio Conte for a potential return to Serie A and that’s hardly surprising considering a run of one win in six in all competitions. That uninspiring statistic is matched by 17th-placed Sassuolo so we could see a draw here.
WEEK 12 MONDAY:
Atalanta vs SPAL
After a difficult run, the visitors picked up a crucial win last week against Genoa, which lifted them to 16th place and survival in their first season in Serie A is the sole focus. Atalanta have won five and drawn one of the last six games at the Azzurri D’Italia though. Good luck SPAL!
Cagliari vs Hellas Verona
Cagliari have slumped to 14th place with five defeats in six, but Verona, down in 19th have only bettered that by a single point with a win and a draw in that period. Verona did the double in this fixture though, back in 2015.
