WEEK 1 SATURDAY:
Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen
The first match of the season is an exciting cracker between two Bundesliga institutions.
Bayern Munich had a rough preseason but managed to hit match form just in time to win the German Super Cup. While Bayer Leverkusen lost Hakan Calhanoglu and Chicharito, they have a bright future in Sven Bender, Kevin Volland and Joel Pohjanpalo.
However, their current form can’t hold a candle to the Bavarians. Punters will be intrigued by Munich’s -0.75 First Half Handicap for 1.91.
Hoffenheim vs Werder Bremen
Serge Gnabry will be facing his former team with the club he is currently loaned to. The 22-year-old will have to brush sentimentality aside and focus on winning the match for his new club. A win here is a lot more important after the bitter loss they suffered in the Champions League qualifiers against Liverpool.
Hertha BSC vs Stuttgart
Hertha Berlin are looking to build upon their run last year and aim for a Champions League spot. They can make a great start to their campaign by winning against the recently promoted Stuttgart. Berlin are looking dangerous on the attack, with Davie Selke adding firepower to Pal Dardai’s strong frontline.
Hamburger SV vs Augsburg
Both Hamburg and Augsburg pulled odd, inspired escapes from 2.Bundesliga, but that’s now a thing of the past. Both these teams cannot afford to flirt with relegation this season, so a win is a must. Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Konstantinos Stafylidis are key Greek guardians for their respective teams.
Mainz 05 vs Hannover 96
Hannover make a return to the Bundesliga after a short tour in the second tier, while Mainz barely escaped the drop zone thanks to goal difference. These two clubs will be hoping for better things this season as they come to this duel.
Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund
Wolfsburg made a lot of moves in the transfer market, making the most of the money they got out of Julian Draxler’s mid-season transfer to PSG. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s purchases reinforced the club’s spine.
It will be interesting to see how this new-look Wolfsburg will work out, but I don’t see them beating the BVB. If you’re interested in this match, SBOBET offers a -1.00 Asian Handicap @ 2.53 for Dortmund.
WEEK 1 SUNDAY:
Schalke 04 vs RB Leipzig
Leipzig have an interesting strategy during this transfer window: they are buying young players with promising potential all over Europe in the hopes of repeating the formula that brought them so much success last season.
Testing their youth formula against a Schalke side that didn’t do too well last season should give Ralph Hasenhuttl a barometer of how his tactics will hold this season. Punters should look at Leipzig’s -0.25 Asian Handicap for 2.29.
Freiburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Christian Streich is doing a marvelous job of quietly building Freiburg over the past few seasons, merging sound match-day tactics with impressive acquisitions over the summer window. Meanwhile, Niko Kovac addressed his team’s lack of a scoring option last season by picking up Sebastien Haller from Utrecht. Fans should expect a quality match between the two side.
WEEK 1 MONDAY:
Borussia Monchengladbach vs Koln
Borussia Monchengladbach went through a bit of a wardrobe change this summer window, losing Mahmoud Dahoud, Andre Hahn in place of Matthias Ginter and Denis Zakaria. Meanwhile, Koln are still reeling from the loss of Anthony Modeste to China. Peter Stoger and Dieter Hecking will be embroiled in a battle of tactics during their opener.
