Arsenal 2-0 West Bromwich Albion
Arsenal climbed to seventh in the table thanks to a double strike from big-money signing Alexandre Lacazette, which saw the Gunners beat a determined West Brom.
On a big night for West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry, who now has the most Premier League appearances having played 633 top-flight football games, it could have been a different story for the battling Baggies.
Following a 2-0 home win, betting odds on Arsenal qualifying for a Champions League place will drop, but there are few football betting pundits who’d back the Gunners for glory on this first-half performance.
Jay Rodriguez was desperately unlucky not to score for the visitors, on eight minutes, when he climbed to his feet after Shkodran Mustafi clattered into him in the penalty box, to then see his shot tipped onto the post by Petr Cech. The former Southampton striker could have had a first-half hat-trick, while at the other end the Gunners’ biggest threat came from three Alexis Sanchez free-kicks.
And it was the second of those which hit the bar and presented Lacazette with his chance to nod Arsenal in front.
Arsenal looked brighter in the second half and ultimately showed the resolve in evidence at Chelsea last week; and when Allan Nyom clumsily barged into Aaron Ramsey in the box, up stepped Lacazette to coolly convert the penalty.
So West Brom coach Tony Pulis still hasn’t won his first point at the Emirates in ten attempts. The question is…can Arsenal win some silverware this season?
