Miami Open Men’s Final

Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal

It’s Federer and Nadal in the finals all over again, and the tennis online gambling faithful can’t be happier.

Indeed, with the likes of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray out due to injuries, these two have taken the spotlight on betting websites and tennis forum; but for a good reason. Nadal has already won 19 matches this year, the most among ATP World Tour players this 2017, while Federer is 18-1 with a pair of titles in the Australian Open and Indian Wells.

Nadal played superbly in his semifinals match against the unseeded but efficient Fabio Fognini. The latter gave the Spaniard a little scare in the second set of their match, but Nadal’s exceptional service game – winning 41 of his 50 service points – proved to be too much for the Italian.

On the other hand, Federer continued his terrific run this year with a masterful showing against the much younger and flashy Nick Kyrgios. It took the 35-year-old three sets and three tiebreakers to repel the polarising Aussie; fortunately, the Swiss Maestro’s experience and composure despite the heavy pressure allowed him to pull through.

Now, the two highly-lauded veteran stars are in the finals of the Miami Masters, 13 years after their first career encounter which was also at Key Biscayne.

The FedExpress will be the favourite to lift the trophy at the end of the day with Money Line Odds giving him 1.75 while an Asian Handicap of -1.50 puts him at 2.72. He might be 13-23 against Nadal, but he won their last three meetings, including a gripping five-set thriller in Melbourne last January.

Rafa, however, will be determined to end that skid, and his new approach to tactics under Coach Carlos Moya should give him a fighting chance. Though, Spain’s Raging Bull also needs to overcome the fact that he hasn’t won on the Florida stage in his last four final appearances there.

It’s difficult to draw any conclusions here as both players have reinvented themselves to still perform at a high level despite their age and a flurry of injuries. Federer has his improved backhand while Nadal has his excellent shot-making – weapons which could rattle opponents and throw them off their game. Hence, this battle could be decided by who has more physical and mental stamina.

One thing is for sure though; you can expect another classic before the curtain falls in Miami!
