Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United
Tottenham have to pick themselves up quickly when they head back home to take on Newcastle United for their third Premier League match in just a span of one week.
Spurs missed their opportunity to cut into Arsenal’s lead at the standings, and now they’ll face Newcastle – who are unbeaten in their last five fixtures.
Antonio Conte’s men are still in good shape overall, though, as they’re level with second-seeded Manchester City with 23 points apiece. On the other hand, their visitors Newcastle are at sixth with 18 points and they’re gunning for a return to Europe.

Talking points
Tottenham Hotspur need a response
Following their loss against Manchester United, Antonio Conte conceded that his side shouldn’t be considered in the Premier League title race despite their healthy position.
They were on the receiving end of Manchester United’s best performance of the season to date under Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils had 28 total shots and 10 on target, while Spurs had a pedestrian output of nine total with only two on target.
19 of those shots came in the first half for Manchester United despite it being goalless at the break. Fred eventually put the hosts in the driver’s seat for good, while Bruno Fernandes added one for good measure.
That woeful performance was the complete opposite against Everton a few days ago, where they won via the same exact scoreline.
Against the Toffees, Spurs were the aggressors, which saw second half goals from Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
It would be great for Tottenham to have short-term memory to forget about their loss to the Red Devils, but they’ll be missing key players in the attacking corps.
Dejan Kulusevski is doubtful to play and Richarlison was in crutches, so Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son will have to do the heavy lifting once again. However, this might open an opportunity for Lucas Moura to return to the starting lineup.
Miguel Almiron hitting top form for Newcastle United
Miguel Almiron was the butt of a joke by Jack Grealish last season, but look who’s laughing now.
The Paraguayan winger now has five goals to lead the Magpies in scoring, while Grealish only has one and he’s not a regular starter for Manchester City.
Almiron has become a pivotal figure for Newcastle since they were missing the services of Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak these past few games.
After their goalless draw against Manchester United, he provided the Premier League 2022 highlights for Newcastle when he scored the marginal goal against Everton yesterday during the half-hour mark. Bruno Guimaraes found Almiron on a dime and he put the ball into the top corner with his great first touch.
Eddie Howe should take credit as well for transforming the Magpies into a robust defencive unit since no other side in the English top-flight has conceded fewer goals this season (9) than them.
That turnaround at the back is impressive considering that they had the unwanted record for giving up the most goals in a calendar year (80) less than a year ago.
History
Spurs own the edge in their head-to-heads against Newcastle. In their 166 meetings prior to this weekend, Spurs have won 73 times, while the Magpies won in 59 games along with 34 draws.
Tottenham have won seven of their last 10 Premier League games against Newcastle (D2, L1), including a double last season with an aggregate tally of 8-3.
They’ve also won each of their last eight league games at home, scoring 22 goals and only conceding five. This is their second-longest home league winning streak, only behind a run between November 2016 and May 2017 where they won 14 straight.
Although they lost to Tottenham on the road last season, Newcastle have won 10 away Premier League matches against them, which is their joint-most against a single opponent besides West Ham United.
Newcastle have only lost one of their previous six away league games (W2, D3) so far.
Betting Tip
Tottenham have the better Premier League 2022 odds of winning this contest. They are installed at 2.08 to win, but Newcastle are going to be competitive since a draw or a win is priced at 3.40.
This match can go either way, though, and fatigue will be a huge factor. Since both sides will be missing some of their key attacking players, we’re expecting a low-scoring affair on Sunday – making Under 2.75 @ 1.80 our main recommendation.
