Serie A: AC Milan Aim to Prove They’re For Real

AC Milan vs AS Roma

AC Milan have been on quite a run as of late, which led to them being on top of the Serie A table for the first time in a long while.

They have won all of their eight matches in all competitions so far this term, which begs the question as to whether they are contenders or pretenders for this year’s Scudetto.

On Monday, they will host AS Roma at the San Siro Stadium and a win here could further cement their place on top of the Italian top-flight.

AS Roma, meanwhile, will look to improve on their campaign as they’ve been hot and cold. As of the moment, they’ve gathered seven points – which is good for the eighth spot at the table.

After going winless in their first two fixtures, the Giallorossi have won back-to-back and they are keen to making it three in a row.

The SBOTOP betting tips predict this as another win for the Rossoneri given their recent form and their opponent’s lineup misfortunes.

But can Paulo Fonseca’s men defy the odds and spring an upset? Or will Stefano Pioli’s side continue to ride their hot hand?

Let’s examine both of these clubs here in our match preview.

Talking Points

Are AC Milan peaking too early?

Momentum is on the side of AC Milan because of their unbeaten run. They may have had the benefit of having a favourable schedule, but kudos to them for taking care of business nonetheless.

The Rossoneri kicked off their campaign with three straight wins versus Bologna, Crotone, and Spezia. But when the Derby della Madonnina was next in their diary, only few believed that they would win.

And win they did as they were fueled by the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the lineup. The 39-year-old striker scored a brace in just a span of four minutes weeks after fully recovering from COVID-19.

In the Europa League, AC Milan thrashed Celtic, 3-1, as several players stepped up to the challenge – with the likes of Rade Krunic, Brahim Diaz, and Jens Petter Hauge scoring one goal each.

Other than their scoring, defence has also been their calling card this season. They’ve only conceded a single goal while pouring in some Serie A 2020 highlights.

Majority of Stefano Pioli’s starters were rested in their victory over Celtic and they are expected to play for this upcoming contest.

Davide Calabria, Ismael Bennacer, and Alexis Saelemaekers will be in while Rafael Leao is expected to fill in for Hakan Calhanoglu, who is out due to an ankle sprain.

Coach Paulo Fonseca will return to the dugout for AS Roma’s match against AC Milan

AS Roma nicked by injuries

The Giallorossi’s backline will take massive hit as they are expected to miss the services of their key defenders.

Chris Smalling remains out as he is still recovering from his knee injury, while Gianluca Mancini is undergoing self-isolation due to COVID-19.

But Paulo Fonseca still has some cogs that can do damage against AC Milan, as their midfield and attacking depth can keep up with the best of them.

Finding the right mix between Edin Dzeko, Pedro, Jordan Veretout, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Borja Mayoral, and Carles Perez will be crucial for how AS Roma will fare on Monday.

History

The overall head-to-heads between AC Milan and AS Roma have been level coincindentally.

In their 48 games against each other, the Rossoneri and the Giallorossi have shared 16 victories apiece along with 16 draws.

Last season, both teams shared the spoils with one win each in their last two meetings.

However, Paulo Fonseca’s men have yet to win in San Siro in more than four years already.

Betting Tip

??
AC Milan vs AS Roma AC Milan Asian Handicap -0.25 @ 1.93
October 27, 03:45 (GMT+8)

The Serie A 2020 odds have AC Milan winning, although via a slimmer margin than most would’ve expected.

The Rossoneri are priced to win at 2.18, while AS Roma are not far behind at 3.20, and chances for a draw are at 3.35, as per the 1×2 market.

Checking for the goal count in this match appears to be tricky, but I am leaning towards Under 2.50 @ 1.73 or even Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.26.

Since action resumed in June after the coronavirus lockdown, AC Milan have yet to lose a game. They have been clicking on both ends of the pitch and they are expected to lay down the law against their opponents.

Injuries have been a bane for AS Roma and their little winning streak is in danger to be snapped this Monday night.
