Serie A: Roma’s Best Chance to Beat Juventus

Juventus vs AS Roma

Nine-time Scudetto winners Juventus host Roma in the final round of Serie A this weekend. And despite Juve’s impressive home record, a win is by no means certain.

There isn’t a huge amount at stake in Turin on Saturday evening when Juventus vs Roma is the match on offer, with both teams assured of their finishing places and pressing European commitments still to fulfill.

I Bianconeri has rather stuttered to the title, which they won with help from Lazio’s post lockdown implosion, while Roma have fifth place guaranteed after a more impressive finish to the season.

On form and with little pressure, this is Roma’s best chance of beating Juventus this season. But even so that would be an impressive achievement.

Talking Points

Both clubs have European priorities

The most successful sides always have to fight battles on multiple fronts and so it is with Juve and Roma, but right now their European commitments take precedence.

I Bianconeri has a Champions League tie against Lyon to complete and they have a goal deficit to make up. A Lucas Tousart strike gave the French side a narrow advantage at a packed Stade des Lumieres and they’ll fight hard to protect that lead in Turin.

Cameroon striker Karl Toko Ekambi leads the Lyon line and he’ll be a handful for the Bianconeri defence, who are unlikely to be tested by Roma’s top scorer Edin Dzeko on Saturday, who looks likely to be rested.

Roma has a tough task in the Europa League looming on next Thursday when they have a single-leg Round of 16 fixture against Sevilla to negotiate.

Here at SBOBET, we’ll be reporting on the action as it happens.

Los Palanganas have qualified for next season’s Champions League with a fourth-place finish in La Liga and have a squad dripping with quality, led by club legend Jesus Navas.

Edin Dzeko has failed to find the net in four previous Serie A outings at Allianz Stadium

Ronaldo’s Capocannoniere chase is almost over

I expect Cristiano Ronaldo to appear for Juventus this weekend, particularly while he still has a slim chance of winning an elusive fifth Golden Boot.

He’s scored an impressive 31 goals this season, but trails Lazio’s hotshot Ciro Immobile by four goals. It’s a lot to make up, but if anyone can do it CR7 can!

With one eye on the Champions League, Maurizio Sarri is likely to field a fairly strong team but he won’t stretch his best players.

Midfield man Rodrigo Bentancur has made seven assists but he could make way for Adrien Rabot who returns from suspension.  Matthijs de Ligt and Paulo Dybala are also likely to be rested.

Paulo Fonseca’s Roma have been in a battle to hold off Milan in Serie A and did so successfully, eventually stretching their lead over the Rossoneri to four points thanks to three wins on the bounce.

Former Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan has scored nine goals and made five assists from 22 starts and he is likely to feature on Saturday, while young striker Nicolo Zaniolo should get some game time.

History

The head-to-head Juventus vs Roma results have been in favour of I Bianconeri throughout the 59 games played since 1993.

29 have been won by Juventus with Roma coming out on top 14 times while there have been 16 draws.

The two teams met twice in January, with Juve winning 3-1 in the quarter final of the Coppa Italia and by 2-1 in Serie A.

The Old Lady comes into the game on the back of a limp performance against 13th placed Cagliari, losing 2-0, while Roma beat Juve’s neighbours Torino by a 3-2 score line with Dzeko opening the scoring.

Roma have won five of the last six, drawing the other game while Juve have won two, drawn two, and lost two.

But Roma will have to break some huge sequences to win in Turin.

I Bianconeri have won 16 and drawn twice at home this season, and they are unbeaten here in 27 and have won the last ten. It’s been nine years since Roma won at this venue.

Betting Tip

??
Juventus vs AS Roma Under 3.25 @ 1.89
August 02, 02:45 (GMT+8)

At any other point of the season the Juventus vs Roma betting odds would give the Old Lady a clear backing at a price of around 1.60.

But this is a one-off and odds of Juventus at 2.81 Roma at 2.20 and the draw at 3.60 show what a good chance this is for the visitors.

But I just can’t bring myself to back a Juventus defeat in Turin.

Their record at the Allianz Arena is outstanding. While form favours Roma, I Bianconeri will not want to surrender an unbeaten record – even in a game where the points don’t really matter.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
