La Liga: Plenty at Stake in Seville Derby

Real Betis vs Sevilla

We’re heading to the Benito Villamarin to round of this weekend’s La Liga round of fixtures, where Real Betis welcome their rivals and neighbours Sevilla.

It’s one of the lower profile derbies in the SBOBET football calendar, but La Liga; Real Betis vs Sevilla is as big as it gets in Andalusia. You can keep your El Clasico, Milan derby and Liverpool versus Manchester City, as far as fans of Betis and Sevilla are concerned; and quite right!

Real Betis boss Rubi is hoping his side can continue a recent upturn in form, while his opposite number, Julen Lopetegui, knows a win could even take his team top. Sevilla is in fifth place on 21 points, but just a point behind leaders Barcelona in the La Liga table while Betis sit eight points behind in 15th place.

Lopetegui needs all of the top four to slip up. Three points is all he’s after at the Benito Villamarin, but with form often going out of the window in derbies, Betis will fancy their chances.

Talking Points

Betis on the up

After an inconsistent start to the campaign, Los Verdiblancos have put in two good performances recently, winning at home to Celta Vigo and then picking up an impressive point away to Real Madrid. The Betis fans were treated to a big-name signing in the summer and he seems to be settling well.

France star Nabil Fekir was quite a coup for Los Verdiblancos. Only a year ago he was chased by European Champions Liverpool, but the deal to take him from Lyon to Merseyside fell through with some confusion surrounding his medical. Well, Liverpool’s loss is Real Betis’ gain and Fekir is happy with his lot, saying: “I can understand that my decision to come to Seville was difficult to understand when you come from a club like Lyon, who play in the Champions League every year.

“I like facing up to challenges, even if they seem a bit crazy. La Liga is perhaps more suited to me than Ligue 1; it’s more technical and focused on attacking.

Another man we expect to see in the Real Betis vs Sevilla highlights package is striker Loren Moron. Having progressed from Betis B last year, the 25-year-old 6ft 2 inch Spaniard is having a great start to the season at Betis, already scoring seven goals, and taking much of the pressure off last season’s main man Borja Iglesias.

Sevilla’s top-four challenge

It’s amazing to think that Valencia, currently in 13th place, are only five points behind the league leaders. Five! So can we rule any of the top two-thirds of the table out of qualifying for next season’s Champions League? With respect to the likes of Osasuna, Levante and Real Valladolid, Julen Lopetegui will see a bigger threat in Valencia than those three, but we are almost a third of the way through the season and the big teams are yet to break away.

Should Los Palangalas aim higher? They’ll certainly want to improve on last season’s sixth-placed finish. Sevilla’s draw with Atletico Madrid last week was hard-fought but Los Rojiblancos are finding winning difficult at the moment and, at home, it was a game Sevilla would hope to win. And measured against the best in the league they suffered a hammering at the Camp Nou when Barca ran riot with a 4-0 win, despite finishing with nine men.

Lopetegui has the quality in his squad to reach the top four. Wide man Franco Vazquez has been impressive, scoring three goals so far and notching the opener in last week’s draw with Atletico. While Lucas Ocampos, with four goals, and Oliver Torres are a handful upfront.

Argentine Ever Banega is the midfield general while captain Jesus Navas is still one of the best-attacking full-backs in the league.

History

These two teams have been playing the Seville derby since 1915 when home team Sevilla ran out 4-3 winners.

Over the last 25 years, Sevilla have had the better of the clashes, winning 20 to Real Betis’ ten and there have been 16 draws. The visitors are unbeaten in five games, while the hosts are unbeaten in five on their home patch.

And that makes the Real Betis vs Sevilla betting tips a little more difficult.

Or does it?

Betting Tip

??
Real Betis vs Sevilla Draw 1×2 @ 3.45
November 11, 04:00 (GMT+8)

I’m going to sit on the fence and predict a draw. Betis are improving and the home crowd can roar them on to thwart their talented rivals.

Sevilla are favourites at 2.14 with Real Betis at 3.20, but a draw wouldn’t be a disaster for either.

For an alternative bet, 2-3 goals is available at odds of 1.91, while the most likely scoreline is 1-1.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
