Borussia Dortmund vs VfL Wolfsburg
The Bundesliga is back after the international break, which means Borussia Dortmund’s chase for the title continues. The BVB had a dramatic injury-time win over Hertha Berlin just before the international break to remain level with Bayern Munich atop the table.
With Bayern in imperious form at the moment, Dortmund know they cannot afford any slip-ups. They must continue picking up all three points to keep their title hopes alive.
However, Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga 2019 results over the past few weeks have been pretty decent, and they could prove to be a handful for a Dortmund side that’s been a bit unconvincing of late.

While Bayern have been blowing teams away of late — they’ve scored at least five goals in their last three games — Dortmund have been escaping by the skin of their teeth. They needed until the 84th minute to secure a 3-1 win over Stuttgart. Meanwhile, they needed to come from behind to a Marco Reus injury-time winner to top Hertha Berlin.
Dortmund can’t expect to get away with leaving things so late over and over again. They need to start taking care of business much earlier in order to prevent a slip-up that could cost them the title.
Thankfully, stars Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho have returned unscathed from international duty. Moreover, both players performed well for their respective countries. Sancho delivered an assist in England’s 5-0 demolition of the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, Reus set up Germany’s dramatic winner against the Netherlands.
Unfortunately, Christian Pulisic picked up a quad injury while on duty with the US national team. That’s quite a blow to Dortmund, who lose a key difference-making weapon off the bench. Pulisic had a goal and an assist after coming off the bench against Stuttgart. Pulisic’s absence means more pressure will be on Reus and Sancho to provide the ammunition to the Dortmund attack against Wolfsburg.
Dangerous Wolves attack
The Dortmund defence has had its problems of late. They’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 matches in all competitions.
That’s not ideal form ahead of a matchup against a Wolfsburg attack which has been finding the net a decent amount of late. Wolfsburg have scored at least three goals in four of their last six Bundesliga matches.
They had a slight blip after they were completely torn to shreds 6-0 by an in-form Bayern side. But they made up for it by demolishing Fortuna Dusseldorf, 5-2. Wout Weghorst had a magnificent game as he netted a hat-trick and also assisted on the team’s other two goals.
The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s top marksmen this season. He has 12 goals on the season, which is tied for sixth in the league.
While the Bundesliga 2019 betting odds continue to favour Dortmund, the last few weeks have shown that they appear vulnerable. And with the pressure of the title race continuing to mount, their unconvincing defence could be prone to more errors.
Wolfsburg certainly have the weapons to do damage against Dortmund. However, history will be strongly against Wolfsburg and their chances of getting a massive away win.
History
To put it simply, this has been quite a one-sided matchup in recent years. That’s because Dortmund have lost to Wolfsburg just one in their last 10 meetings. That includes seven wins for Dortmund — including their first meeting earlier this season — and two draws. Moreover, Wolfsburg have not beaten Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park since 2012.
The last few seasons have not been particularly good for Wolfsburg. In four meetings between 2016 and 2017, Dortmund beat Wolfsburg by a combined score of 16-2! But curiously, the two meetings they had in 2018 resulted in just one goal in total.

Despite the fact that Wolfsburg have looked feisty and dangerous in front of goal of late, the SBOBET odds don’t give them much of a chance to leave Dortmund with all three points. 1X2 has them priced at 6.00 to pull off the upset against the league’s second-placed side.
That very well could be the case, but there’s a decent chance that there will be a fair few goals in store in this match. With Wolfsburg’s recent form in front of goal coupled with the Dortmund defence’s recent frailties, the home side could struggle to keep a clean sheet once again.
